I haven't seen another thread on this. I just grabbed it for free today.
Destiny 2 on Battle.net is free, for keeps, until November 18 | PCGamer
^^^That was me, LOL. Wanted it, but did not want to spend any money to get it.

Dont know if i'll like it when my laptop is running but my friend told me about this a couple days ago as well.
Got it claimed, should be interesting for a later date.Mr. Fox likes this. -
I played it for over an hour this evening and I really like it. Excellent FPS and it plays very smooth. The only thing I don't like about it so far is I have not figured out how to get RTSS on-screen display working with it yet.Reciever likes this.

Sometimes its a pain with online titles as they flag anything that can be considered as an overlay.Mr. Fox likes this.
-
I am not playing it online, but maybe that is the cause. I've read about that being flagged as a cheat before. Really stupid that some do that.

But wasn't it already free to play?
Oh wait, I was thinking about Warframe

Any and all overlays are disabled, which is why the people that cheat are either using DDoS or exploits in games as there is no cheats for the game.
Just a word of warning from a fellow D2 paid player, it's heavy on the micro transactions (unless they have killed Tess from Greedivurse which doubt it)
It was one of the many reasons why I stopped playing the game.
It was a brilliant game when it came out but with all the scandals and micro-transactions under handing I simply lost the love and will to play that game again let alone to buy the DLC and season pass (which seems to be a yearly affair)
They certainly made it Destiny 2 Cash-Cow edition which is Activision/Blizzard normal ammo now adays.

Well, hell. That really sucks.
That does, too. Probably why it is "free" LOL. GoW4 has some of that, too. Seems more and more games are doing that now. I ignore that nonsense, but it is agitating. I will play it for a while until the new wears off, as it usually does with most games for me. There are are few I play through over and over, but not many are good enough to hold my interest long enough to play through to the end even once. I am already finding a few things I don't like, such as returning to the farm and having dialogue to identify the next mission. I find that irritating and would prefer it were more linear and just automatically move from chapter to chapter instead of that nonsense. I also do not like having to stop to read about power-ups and new weapons, or equip them manually. I would prefer that they would just be grab and go, automatically added to the weapon inventory on the fly without any pause in the game.
But, since I paid nothing for it I cannot complain too much. I have had about 3 hours of good entertainment so far, so can't hate that.
I never purchase DLC unless it adds new offline single-player campaign content, which is essentially never any more.

Hard for me to tell, since no OSD data shows and I cannot even tell how many FPS it is running. On my desktop it was super-smooth, no stuttering, lagging or anything. Is it misbehaving on you in some way? Just curious why you say that.
I will see if any kind of benchmark software (Action or FRAPS or Afterburner) will at least capture that data even though the OSD part is broken.jaug1337 likes this. -

I've watched videos about the Destiny games that said the same thing, and its problems were endemic to all platforms. The engine was simply not well done because even seemingly minor updates required a lot of work.jaug1337 likes this. -
So far I have not seen any issue with it running well.

In what way? The general consensus was that it was one of the most optimized games of 2017. -
Yeah, it's as smooth as glass for me. I just got through playing about 2 hours without a single glitch or hiccup. And, my temps were fine as well with some major overclocking.
-
Are you playing on a 144hz screen?
You can enable a FPS counter in game.
It just doesn't feel smooth, it feels off, I've tried it on several machines and my friends all say the same.
This is without any hiccups, fps issues or alike.
Maybe I am just insane...Mr. Fox likes this. -
I looked for one and did not find it in the settings. I will look again. My monitor is 165Hz and the gameplay feels very fluid and smooth for me.
-
Did I just spot @Raidriar in a match of crucible?
Geforce experience overlay does work though. But same for me, running it on a 165hz monitor and the engine handles motion so well. Especially the per object motion blur makes the game extra smooth in motion. The DLC after made the game truly great. Burned about 500 hours in this game until now and playing in a clan.
Its one of the best optimized games on the market and runs smooth with 60fps from a 1050TI and anything up.Attached Files:

Nope, I don't have Destiny 2 installed on any of my systems. Most my time is spent either playing chivalry, AOE2, FFXV or ark or some gamecube/ps2 emulation
-
Let’s stop the madness
I’ve been playing this game for about a year. That includes base game and all DLC. It runs like butter, ( I do have 4 Titans xp cards-but that’s another story
)and if you want to see your FPS go into settings and turn it on. Micotransaction exist, but if you don’t want to buy anything you don’t have to. The only thing Tess sells are emotes and other useless things. You have to really grind this game by playing it to get armor and weapons. Even then nothing is guaranteed, RNG in this game is real and it’s a *****. The best part of the game is the endgame stuff, raids, strikes, crucible etc. the story part of the game is mainly to level up and get used to game.

Well, I could not get Action or MSI Afterburner video capture to work, but the Windoze OS X Gamer-Boy cancer crap worked for that. Here's a 5 minute run with the graphics settings maxed out. Clocks and temps shown at the end of the video. Recorded and uploaded at 2560x1440. Does @D2 Ultima play D2? Did they name the game after the streaming grandmaster?

No apology necessary. Sarcasm is the spice of life and my favorite form of humor.
Everyone has their personal preferences for gaming genres, music, movies, etc. and that is totally fine. As an example, I do not care for anything @Raidriar mentioned that he prefers to play. Those titles and others in the same genres totally turn me off, but he is still a really good guy.

I like to hear/play a good story, and emulation is an excellent CPU benchmark tool
We used to see who could run final fantasy x-2 with the highest frames while using the software renderer in PCSX2. Now that RPCS3 is out, it completely destroys my system, as the code is still in its infancy, and PS3 emulation is extremely taxing. I remember trying to iverclock my core 2 quad q9100 to try and get 60FPS, couldn’t do it then

Thata the one thing Destiny could improve upon. They have great lore but its not really visible in the game itself and presented in such a way.
Played FF15 too by the way. Loved the first half unofrtunately the second half was too linear for my taste and the story pacing became a bit off. -
I only completed ffxv because I’ve waited 12 years to play it, and was sorely disappointed that it bore little resemblance to what it was in 2006. At least I can close that chapter now. FFXV DOES however, serve as my graphics benchmark, as it is extremely GPU taxing. My friend’s R9 290X nearly had a meltdown
-
I bet it did struggle. R9 290X seems to be roughly the equivalent of a GTX 780 or 780Ti, so FFXV benchmark would be a lot to expect from it.
-
Ah the good ol' FF13versus days. yeah it was a bit of a letdown.
-
Nvidia purposefully paying square to make it run extra crappy on AMD cards doesn’t help either. There is no reason why my single 980M would beat his R9 290X, other than Nvidia and square Enix being in bed together.
-
It's hard to say for sure. Your single 980M is really close to GTX 780 desktop performance and almost an exact match to R9 290X. If it doesn't beat it by a lot, then it's probably appropriate, and would only be attributable to the fact that AMD truly sucks where GPUs are concerned. NVIDIA's engagement in gaming is something we can and should all appreciate. Gaming represents the lion's share of NVIDIA revenue, so all that kind of makes sense when taken in perspective. Executing on this as a top business initiative, and maintaining their lead position, is something I would expect NVIDIA to do. It would be foolish for them to do otherwise. This is not a priority for AMD, and it shows.Last edited: Nov 14, 2018

nvidia always has good chroma compression and the engine benefits a lot from that.

It seemed to work pretty well judging by your capture, why the vitriol? I've captured a few times with Shadowplay, that always seemed to work exceptionally well.Mr. Fox likes this.

I just loathe Windows 10 and the worthless UWP bloatware garbage. Destiny 2, like most everything else, runs better on Windows 7, but the gamer-boy XBox junk in Windows 10 was the only thing that worked for screen capture.
I only use @j95 GeForce driver mods and all of the NVDIA bloatware, including GeFarts Experience and telemetry nonsense is eliminated. Only drivers, NVIDIA Control Panel and PhysX are installed.hacktrix2006 and hfm like this. -

Still, the game is free, so grabbed it anyway. Will see how it goes.
I've spent quite a lot of time in The Division, at least by my tolerance standards for such games. Warframe, despite all its praise, didn't manage to grab me, but Destiny 2 gameplay is quite nice, to be honest, really like it.
That install size though, 80GBs... I really should get a bigger SSD... Though it runs quite nicely from HDD.Mr. Fox likes this.
