If anyone who haven't decided yet to buy it or not, here is a short review:

    Pro
+ Exciting story with a lot of twists
    + High replay value
+ Very good stealth and role-playing parts...

    Con
    - and less good shoot-out parts
    - a bit worn graphics
    - sometimes stupid AI

    Overall 89/100,

That's good to hear. How would you rate the story and the gameplay compared to the original?

Did you play it on a PC? How many bugs does it have (small or large)?

how long did the game last?

and how much of the game consists of cutscenes or scenes where the character is on rails, vs. levels where you can explore freely

Those pros and cons sound a lot like the original :D except the original had pretty decent graphics for the time.

This game is biased towards AMD card so if you have one, it'll perform well.

Yeh, how did you play it.

It will have bugs and be short, because you pirated the BETA version that is nearly half the size of the full game that is coming out.

Finally, more games that are ATI-biased than nVidia-biased! :D

Also, I am contemplating if it is worth the $45 USD Steam Pre-Order...

I preordered it for 45 euros, so for 45 us dollars its a even better deal.
But do note that the game is region locked, meaning you cant go buy it for cheap.

The UK version wont unlock on a non UK Steam account for example.
    Its a dirty trick, i know. D;

Hmm, does that mean that it's locked for playing and downloading as well? I live in China most of the year but use a US-based Steam account. Not that it really matters that much, I guess, as I don't think my Envy 14 would run it very well, so I'm still a couple years from playing it in all likelihood.

I am sure the 5650M can handle it but not at native resolution of all high. It is sad that the HP variant is pretty pathetic when compared to the 5650M ATI referenced clock speeds.

It is a very very very loooong game.
Gametime depends on the style you play (stealth or running around like John Rambo).

Don't know exact time, but with "stealth" gameplay style until to about the 50% of the game's main story line and after that "Rambo" style, the Steam counter was at around 43 hours (including doing all side quests).
If you wan't to read all newspapers, e-mails, e-books, etc, add some more extra hours.

If you play through the game with "stealth" style, you can get 45+ hours out of it.

So in other words, add the epicness of Splinter Cell and the looong gameplay of Dragon Age 1 and you get Deus Ex :)

It's been a long time since I was this excited about a game. Actually, scratch that, I've never been this excited about a game.

I was half-expecting them to screw up again a la Invisible War. Glad to hear they didn't.

So, if it's not pirated and not Beta. Which steam account did you steal/hack?

Regardless, you're access to the game was illegitimate.

Fact of the day: testers/game magazines get the retail game before store release.

Wonder why every1 thought that it was acquired illegally.

Thanks very much for the details.

If you were to take a guess, how much of that is roughly cut scenes vs. free exploration?

I recall watching in a demo video a cut scene in the laboratory near the beginning that looks similar to gameplay in that you can pan the camera around, except the PC is moving forward on rails and not free to explore. Are those sort of cut scenes common?

They thought it was acquired illegally because you didn't indicate anywhere that you were a tester or an official reviewer...

Sweet on the length of the game, though - I was kind've afraid it was gonna be in the 10-15 hour range like so many other games these days. Glad to know I was wrong - now to see if I ever get around to buying and playing it... My current backlog goes back to about 2006, so that's hard to tell...

    yeah. the press alpha kinda..

well it ran at native resolution at whatever the default settings were on dx9 mode on my envy 14.

But it also stuttered horribly at times. *shrugs* Still debating on whether or not I should get it for pc or 360. kinda waiting to see if the release version had some optimization done

Will be interesting to see a review of the final version, rather than the stolen one that most people are commenting on and 'reviewing'.

For example, the leaked version doesn't support Eyefinity very well - the release version however does.

Yeah, my 5650's still in question, though. I sent my Envy in this summer and they replaced the motherboard (presumably they didn't swap my old 5650 onto the new motherboard, so that should be new too), but my one 2-minute test since getting it back - checking to see if Farcry 2 still had massive artifacting - was a failure. I'll try running something that worked this time last year (maybe Borderlands or Fallout 3) soon enough, but for now I'm not too hopeful I'll get those running properly, much less Deus Ex 3...

No, it'll wait... I've already waited a decade, after all.

I got a hold of the testers verion he is using. the graphics look identical to half life 2. havent played the game yet so i cant say if its as good as halflife 2.

shouldnt this game look better than it does though?

and if its 45 hours of gameplay im def buying this when it comes out.

Guess this game is a poster child of "it's the gameplay; not the graphics". Every vid I've seen of it so far, makes it look kinda crappy, graphics wise. I agree that if the gameplay is great, the graphics will take a backseat.

I've had this preordered for a while now. Looking forward to it! Lucky me that it comes out on the 1st day of my 10 day "staycation". Be playing the hell outta it.

To be honest though, it's their next game that I'm REALLY pumped about: Thief IV!!!!!!

He said that he was at 43 hours after completing 50% of the main quest.

I certainly hope it's much longer than 45 hours, that seems too short IMO. I only buy smaller games like that after they get heavily discounted on Steam.

lol at 45 hours? you are sick son

their is like 3 games that are longer than 45 hours in the history of gaming.

btw if anyones curious about performance, it runs like a dream. it runs at 30-60fps with a overclocked 5650. and im sorry for saying or hinting the games ugly.

but my update, the game is gorgeous. very very sharp textures and nice polygon counts. its just that it looks kinda dated when compared to crysis graphic wise. dont expect crysis level graphics but it does look goodthats for sure.

    and also. let me add.

I am having a very difficult time finding games that are engaging or fun. I BASICALLY only like half life 2 and crysis 1. no other games ive played in the last year are fun or engaging with maybe the exception of portal 2.

this game is the first engaging game ive played in 5 years, the story really sucks you in.

    pros

    graphics are above average
    gameplay length is crazy long
    dialog selections
    weapons and gadgets are awsome
    story really is epic
performance is incredible for a game from 2011
    controls are intuitive
cutsceans are riddled throughout the game, like 1 every 5 min which is awesome
the gameplays out like masseffect sorta like playing a movie

    cons
    cant think of any

this game and mark my words will be nominated for game of the year for sure,id bet my life on it.

the original poster is kinda jerky with his short review and explaination of how he got the game, and his score is ridiculously low. 89/100 is not a good representation of what to expect. more like 95/100 5 points docked for graphics.

what more do you guys want from a game, it is a game afterall. great story, great controls, fun, exciting, long, interesting, nice too look at.

btw it looks better than masseffect 2 and i never heard anyone complain obout masseffects graphics. and what i mean by graphics is the details in the enviroment. it is overcrowded with little objects everywhere.

too be more specific the faces lol. they look worse than half life 2 i swear. but everything else looks nice.

in fact ill go as far as to say the lighting in half life 2 episode 2 looks better than deus ex hr. the faces look cleaner in half life 2 also.

im so torn right now with the graphics. im really not sure what they compare to. they look sharp clean and sorta nice. much better than bulletstorm.

graphics graphics graphics. id rate the graphics a 9/10. they do look good but its just that they are missing the lighting and detail on the faces.

ok the graphics look as good as just cause 2 and the game coincidentally runs about the same.

just cause 2 = dues ex hr graphics. the faces anyways

anyways im tired of typing this rant. but game is def a 95/100 legit. best game in years.

Complaining about 45 hour single player game? What planet are you from? I think the longest game I ever played similar was Oblivion. That's freaking phenomenal. I can't even imagine how you beta test and debug a 40+ hour game.

    hmmm.

I had issues with the leaked alpha at stock clocks and at 1600x900

I can't go above 450/800 really much which are my stock clocks which aren't your stock clocks. so, yay.

Oh well. if the stuttering wasn't there for you at 1336x768 on 550/800 I can see how it fairs on 550x800 (which usually works) at 720p instead.

yea your resolution is too high. but then again 1280x800 shouldnt look too bad on your 14.5 inch screen.

and yea i have the leaked beta aswell. technically its not pirating as its an incomplete game that may or may not be being used for testing educational purposes. im using it for educational purposes. Im trying to test my system using it to see how it runs and to make a config which is considered educational therefore legal grounds to download the file

As an indie developer and an author I'm intimately familiar with copyright law, its application to software piracy, and with what it means on a personal level to live in a world with people who believe stuff like this quote above.

Simple fact here mate, you are a thief. Yes, technically, you are stealing. It's is the same as if you'd walked into a developers house and physically grabbed a DVD. The biggest negative to what youve done instead of walking into a house and taking stuff is that there is no justification here for the people you stole from grabbing a nearby Glock and blowing you away.

Dude's making terrible excuses, but let's not make this worse by posting laughable internet revenge fantasies, eh?

Anyway, the leak has generated a ton of very positive word of mouth for Eidos. No idea if it has a net positive effect on sales though. It'll be difficult to prove either way.

Please don't talk down to me. The mechanism by which the 'dude' stole is irrelevant, and my point is that in many states with castle doctrine in place, had he walked into a developers home and physically stolen the DVD then he homeowner could have used deadly force to stop the crime, legally.

Not only that, but I can guarantee developers have purposely leaked code to get some reaction from the community. And beta code is unfinished and unpolished. It'd be like getting a handicam video of an unedited movie.

I don't advocate piracy. But I also don't advocate the "screw the customer" mentality of the entertainment business.

I don't know that I'm talking down to you. I'm merely calling your offtopic gun derail a laughable internet revenge fantasy, because that's what I happen to think it is.

    ...

Anyone know if they are planning on making the DLC available at a later date? I don't care about game breaking items, but would possibly be interested in the extra Tracer Tong mission if it's good and not horrendously overpriced.

Yippee, an incoming gun debate! That's just great!

Next on the list of possible fruitless discussion topics; can there ever be peace in the Middle East? What are your insights on that godly_skillz?

Possibly. It's a dangerous game to play though and if this is a proper leak (I haven't seen anything that indicates otherwise), it has (had) the potential of prematurely damaging the game and its sales. Luckily it seems to have turned out well for Eidos.

Companies don't want to show off a product before it's almost done for a good reason. The lack of control of the marketing narrative and of (secret) IP could potentially throw a giant monkey wrench in their plans. Calling a leak a sinister marketing plan often doesn't pass the muster of Occam's razor.

So are the reports that it is a 40+ hour game accurate?
