Speaking of which, I really wonder how they gonna continue Jensen's story from that ending (think Mass Effect 3) we had in HR.

Well the above shot from the trailer seems to indicate that the canon ending to Human Revolution is the one where Jensen floods the facility and buries the information along with everyone onboard beneath the ocean. Then flygirl locates Jensen through his GPL and rescues him (that's clearly the silhouette of Malik's VTOL over the water), paying back the life debt she owes him from Hengsha.

Which would imply that Darrow, Taggart, and Sarif are all dead. I think Darrow and Taggart dying is of little concern at this point in the story, assuming you didn't already kill Darrow before descending into the Hyron Core, because they've already played out their respective roles to conclusion. But with the unresolved tension between Jensen and Sarif, and Sarif's ties to the Illuminati conspiracy, it makes sense to bring Sarif back. So I'm gonna take a stab at it and say that Sarif somehow also makes it out of Panchaea, either through Malik or some other means.

    Added spoiler.

They already made it clear that your DX:HR save won't carry over into the new game.

So all those decisions meant nothing. That's the point of having multiple ways to progress the story then? I mean it's nice to have those in the game, zOMG moar choices and stuff, but kinda lame not to see them develop in the sequel.

Because the open-ended nature and player agency is what makes Deus Ex Deus Ex. Answered in the previous post by a dev:

At the end of the day, the multiple endings in HR are really not all that different. Since MD bridges HR and the original Deus Ex, all roads lead to Rome canonically speaking.

looks pretty interesting. I considered getting Deus Ex Human Revolution a while back when it was on sale but decided not to and put it on Wishlist instead.

not sure if I should get into the series, except for the original and HR, the other two has pretty bad review on Steam and I find it hard to look past the outdated graphics of the original.

Invisible War isn't as bad as people say. Play it and form your own opinions. As a matter of fact, I don't even think The Fall is a terrible game, and I consider it essential if you've also read Icarus Effect and want to get the complete story.

There are mods for the original Deus Ex to improve its graphics. New Vision, HDTP, and Kentie's D3D10 renderer (which is included in New Vision) are the essentials. There is also a total conversion mod called Revision coming out soon that'll significantly overhaul the visuals in Deus Ex and bring them closer to modern standards.

Once they patched in the ability to re-map the keyboard controls, DX: The Fall went from being basically unplayable to not all that bad considering its roots as a game for mobile devices.

I like that the developers are putting more effort into making combat just as viable as stealth. As much as I love Human Revolution, there were stretches where it felt like I had to sneak to get past certain checkpoints. The new game is looking good, but I wish they were going to offer a physical PC release, at least of the collector's edition if nothing else.

Deus Ex Revision is out, so now's as good a time as any to jump into the classic ;). And Steam has DX1 and HR 80% off for good measure.

Nice. Will definitely be checking that out once I move next month and get my Zbox back up and running.

If anyone is on the fence about Human Revolution, just buy it when it's on sale. For $5, which is the usual sale price, even if you absolutely blitz through the game, you'll still get at least 10-15 hours of content because The Missing Link DLC has been integrated into the main campaign. Even if it were mediocre, it would be well worth that price, but to me, it's a modern masterpiece and one of my absolute favorites of all time. In many respects, I think it's even superior to the original game.

I own the original release of Human Revolution and Director's Cut on Steam; the "Ultimate Edition" which is the original release with pre-order bonuses/mission and Missing Link from the Mac App Store; and the Ultimate Edition for Mac OS X on DVD, which has the game and 40-page art book that was part of the original pre-order for the Augmented Edition.

Even Deus Ex: The Fall is a worthwhile expansion pack now that they removed the microtransactions and added the ability to rebind the controls.

I've not played Invisible War, but I did pick it up during the last GOG sale, and that is probably going to be the next thing I play.

Agreed, HR is one of my favorite games from the last 5 years. Have you read Icarus Effect? It ties in nicely with The Fall and HR.

Unfortunately you can't. That said, DX1 is very replayable by nature, so if it's your first time I'd suggest sticking with the vanilla gameplay (or with visual mods if desired) and play Revision the second time through for its updated level design and soundtrack. Revision also bundles the gameplay mods Shifter and BioMod, although my gameplay mod of choice is GMDX.

what visual mod do you recommend? I bought both games but have not touched them yet. I thought revision would be a nice visual mod but apparently it does more than that.

New Vision and Project HDTP. Revision is mainly a level design and soundtrack update, but it also bundles some of the most well-known Deus Ex mods over the years like the 2 aforementioned visual mods as well as the gameplay mods Shifter and BioMod.

For your first playthrough, I'd recommend keeping the gameplay vanilla at the very least, and if you want better graphics, download New Vision and HDTP from ModDB, as well as the latest D3D10 renderer and Deus Exe from kentie.net.

Personally what I will do is buy Mankind Divided when it goes on sale. Then play DX1, read Icarus Effect, play The Fall, play HR Director's Cut, play Mankind Divided, and play Invisible War. In that order.

Yes they are shorter than DX1 and HR. The Fall is the shortest.

All of the Deus Ex games go on sale often throughout the year. Square Enix loves to put their games on sale.

Nope, but IMO it is the most logical and enjoyable order to play them in given the vast number of DX1 references in HR. I actually forgot to insert Mankind Divided, I would play it between HR and IW.

    Story chronology is:

Icarus Effect is the prequel to The Fall. Icarus Effect and The Fall run parallel to the events of HR for much of their duration, but Icarus Effect begins before HR and HR ends after The Fall. Mankind Divided takes place a couple years after HR. DX1 takes place a couple decades after HR, and Invisible War takes place a couple decades after DX1.

I played through DX1 ages ago, when it was first released. Great game that I remember. Now that Revision is out, I started it up again. But not too far into it and may start over anyhow. What upgrades are best to start with?

For gameplay? Whatever you're most comfortable with. Pretty much any combination of attributes is perfectly viable. The only real suggestion I have would be to take the GEP gun (rocket launcher) at the very beginning because those are hard to come by otherwise. You can pick up a crossbow and sniper rifle in the very first mission.

I remember something hilarious happened in my playthrough back when DX1 first released. I figure the spoiler statute of limitations is way past on this game, but since Revision just launched i'll use one.

I was able to kill Anna on that dude's private jet with a rocket launcher. It took me like so many tries to do it because things were happening so damn fast. I didn't even realize it was possible I was just trying over and over to get the shot in and she EXPLODED INTO A SPRAY OF GIBS. I loved how the references to her death permeated the rest of the game.
