It's not the first time something like this was done (i.e. Tomb Raider), but definitely the first time I see pre-order bonuses done in this manner.
Not that I was gonna pre-order it anyway, I already spent that money on Expansion Pass for The Witcher 3. At least CDPR includes everything they have with a purchase of their gamesTomJGX likes this. -
Why do people pre order? That's what I want to know. It's not like they'll ever run out of digital copies.

Well.
I'm guilty of preordering. Logic for the following games -
Disney Infinity 3.0: My kids xmas present, got it early; and it comes with Boba Fett. Boba Fett, need I say more?
Mad Max - Due to financial reasons/RL stuff I decided to buy it early since I'm planning to save like crazy until the end of year
NBA 2K16 - Same reason as Mad Max
Between Witcher 3 DLC, Mad Max, 2k16, and the next Tales game coming out this year; I should be gtg until sometime next year.
But yeah - the above is BS. At least the Tales game pre-order bonus is giving everyone a free copy of Tales of Symphonia when its released next year. The above? Nonsense. -
Hype, peer pressure, and the need for instant gratification
-
Early release? You mean more time as paying beta testers? No thanks. I'm OK with pre-order incentives, like a decent discount or added bonus items (but that other users can still get after release) for free. But early release? Really? Most games are half baked at release anyhow.

I recently pre-ordered The Witcher 3 Expansion Pass.
But other than that and a couple of other games I was able to buy for half the price before release I don't pre-order. -
The gif is too good to be mad.
But yes I am mad. Mad. -
I've pre-ordered in the past where I got something I'd otherwise have to pay extra for. Like, pre-ordering Bioshock Infinite gave me games. Pre-ordering Borderlands 2 gave me the extra character that I knew I wouldn't be able to pay for later (and that was even a 4-pack, so it cost less to buy for the friends and myself). But in general there's no reason to pre-order.
Hell, this is PC, you can usually get a "pre order key" after the game launches and still get the benefits if you know it's good XD.TBoneSan likes this. -
Yeah there's situations where it makes sense. I preordered GTA5 for the discount since I new I'd buy it anyway.
I don't like pointing fingers but from reading comments on gaming sites it seems most of the younger console users are largely to blame. -

Yeah - I honestly don't buy the whole "Preordering games has significant impact on quality" as a blanket statement - it simply doesn't. There are bad production/development companies. That's all. I preorder virtually every game for a number of reasons and the only constant is that its the same company over and over failing at quality. In the end, you have good companies and bad companies. The bad ones - don't buy their games immediately, period. Preordering has nothing to do with it. Deus Ex - HR was a terrible release, it was buggy for like ever; but eventually they fixed it (more/less) and it ended up being a good game. Will I preorder it? No sir. Not after the last fiasco and no amount of bonuses will change that. Other companies? Blizzard, CDPR, Monolith, Rockstar, Avalanche , etc. - I'll preorder every single one of their games that look good. They typically release quality games.

I already preordered Fallout 4 and that's going to last me until the 2016 Steam Summer Sale, so forget preorders ...I'm getting everything on discount.

Are you serious? Preordering plays exactly into their hands. The entire hype/PR spin machine and deceptive marketing that plagues AAA nowadays is predicated on generating as much upfront money for them as possible AKA preorders, not on delivering a quality, well-supported product at release and beyond. The bulk of revenue stream for AAA titles comes from before release and in the first week to month after release. If you're not a part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

Right....as I said, preordering isn't the problem. Bad companies are. There are plenty of games (more so than not) that release games that function as they should; especially when you start comparing PC to console gaming. "If you're not a part of the solution, you're part of the problem." - Not preordering isn't a solution. Its an attempt at a "solution" with zero facts supporting it to be effective, it's simply an ideology of what people think would impact gaming companies. -
Chicken and egg. You and I are not gonna see eye-to-eye on this.
-
i'll buy it on feb 24-25 once reviews come in.

I'm curious about what sort of BS publishers are gonna try next time
.
Also, lul at their statement - "we tried to be oh so nice by adding so much free stuff, but you meanies didn't like it... Now you made us sad and we have to abandon our awesome idea" (not exact quote).
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided pre-order scheme is malarkey!
