I don't know what the problem with the server is. Anyways, here is the question I asked -
Hello all,
Yes I am aware D3 just came out, in case someone is already wondering (after reading the title) where on me head I got knocked (in fact, it just arrived today).
I never got around to playing D2 (too young at the time) and I was told I have to play it before starting D3 so I was wondering if anyone knows whether that resolution patch going around on the internet works for content bought off of Blizzard's store. I don't want to have to play it on 800x600.
Thank you.

Diablo II from blizzard store is the same one as the one that came in the boxes 12 years ago, so yeah, I'm pretty sure it works.
I'm gonna try it after I get it installed again, though I see no reason for failure. -
Okay thank you.

It's working fine here, and it says it was made for 1.12A anyways so should work fine there as well.
Just one note, the direct3D doesn't work well, you'll have to use 3Dglide or directdraw. -

Yeah just use this glide wrapper for diablo 2: Glide3-to-OpenGL-Wrapper
-
Yup, and if for some reason you can't get the Wrapper to work, DirectDraw will work fine, though the game looks better on Glide.

Keep in mind that playing in resolutions higher then 800x600 is not supported by Blizzard (and is in fact banned on their realms), as it gives an advantage over other players (you can teleport further, etc)
