So who is looking forward to Diablo 3?
I was not a big fan of the first 2, they just sort of passed me by while I was playing other games I guess. But I have to admit I think the Diablo series is one of the most popular of all time and probably top for sure in its genre.
I really did like playing similar games like Torchlight, but without the multiplayer aspect it just didnt hold me for long.
I liked the co-op of Portal 2 a lot but with no replay it died off fast (waiting for the DLC probably like a year away....)
Starcraft 2 has replay and is still great but the challenge level makes it hard for me to find somebody to play with and its pure esports competitive nature is not always relaxing like you may want.
So honestly I am looking forward to Diablo 3 now, a nice little adventure that rewards you for the time you invest into the game with better gear, sort of like a MMO but should be free to play.
I imagine getting a few guys together and playing co-op while chatting away on my mumble server would be good times.
The good news is that it looks like D3 may not be far off, like 6 months? Rumors say Beta may be out any time!
So hey if anybody gets the inside on the Beta please invite me or let me know when its up to apply. I would like to try it out and also test the game for eyefinity support.
Please fill me in on what you think about D3 and if you plan to get it.

All wishful thinking... D3 is going to be done "when its done".
So figure slightly faster than Duke Nukem Forever.
That being said, I'll be playing single-player D3 as soon as it comes out.
I still break out D2 from time to time.
Multi-player games from blizzard are well... pointless.
Cheating is rampant and finding a battle.net game where everyone isn't hacked/cheating is nigh impossible.
The only time multiplayer is worth it is locked games with trusted friends.
(since they removed LAN play) -
I don`t know about this one. On one side they have made it like WoW with cartoonish characters and maps but on the other side it is Diablo and they have all been great. I wish they could have kept it dark and evil like Diablo 1/2.
-
Think I'm looking forward to it. Depends on how much they screw around with with it !
If I have to use anything other than my mouse to play it, then it's not Diablo ! -
I don't know if i'll get this one. I bought the first two and thought they were ok. To me they were more of a clickfest, so I quickly moved onto other games.
-
I'm definitely getting it - even if it isn't going to stick to it's dark roots. I mean come on...it's d3 by blizzard. They have a good record of making great games.
. Yes I know - I sound like a bliss fanboy...lol
-
Of course I'm getting it! They could release it in a year or tomorrow and I would still be excited and buy the game. (Although, I really hope the release is in 2011)
Diablo has always interested me and I can't see why Diablo 3 would be disappointing. -
they take to long with their games. they show tech demos for a game that is tobe released 3 years later. it will be cool but im not excited for it. i could care less. if push comes to shove there is always torchlight and soon torchlight 2. torchlight 2 will have surface hunting outside of towns. It should be even better then torchlight 1.
-
Pics are out, they have a dark/cartoon look to them I'd say, theres tons of recent photos out of the game, they used the same art style as lets say Starcraft 2 but made it diablo. That said I won't be surprised if this is bumped to 2013 until WoW stream of money starts coming to a trickle. Gsme Mechanics look bananas and sounds like there will be tons upon tons of stuff to do. Get ready to lock yourself in your dungeon for nights on end....
-
I will be getting them (possibly even a day-1 in-store buy) definitely, just because I love D2 so much.
-
I'm waiting patiently for it. To me, a late 2012 release sounds likely. D2 is in my top 3 greatest games of all time, along with WoW and Gears 2.
I will definitely be up for joining in on a multiplayer chat/game session to just let the time roll away with friends like I used to do in Gears and WoW. So hopefully the forum can set up some D3 time when it's released.
Also, I'd love to help you out with a beta invite but I'm always one step behind when it comes to those things, however, it'd be nice if someone could hook both of us up with beta invites when the time comes. -
Nah one of the head project guys proclaimed they were on the home stretch and expected to be done sooner. Anything from blizzard has to be considered in blizzard time but it sounds like they are content locked and balancing at this point. Christmas seems a bit hopeful but 2012 should be around when they start putting out information on the expansion which we all know is coming.
-
Actually there is a fair chance that beta will be announced in precisely 4 days.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
Im looking forward to this one, I actually still play the old ones from time to time -
My guess is that Blizzard will not bother releasing it this year if they want to maximise sales, the Witcher 2 and Skyrim will likely lock horns for the RPG market leaving Blizzard to clean up in 2012 when there are no clear competitors for the action-RPG crown.
I can't see how requirements will be higher than Starcraft 2 though. -
Just get ready to replace your left mouse button.
But meh, Diablo 1 & 2 didn't do much to impress me. And the debacle that is Starcraft 2 I won't bother touching it unless it is a solid win. -
-
Didn't know Mass Effect 3 was scheduled for a 2012 release, I would have thought Bioware were too busy with the upcoming Star Wars MMORPG.
I still play Diablo 2 on and off which is quite something considering it was first released in 2001 and I only picked it up when patch 1.09 had been the standard for some time. -
I loved D2, but the direction of D3 makes it look like a joke. Here are the reasons:
- the artwork lacks darkness
- the graphics look cartoony, as if they're based on WoW
- the classes are *terrible*. What can a monk possibly do besides molest demons to death?
- it will probably be expensive, say $60.
All in all, the game has little to commend itself. For less money I can get a itself RPG (say, Fallout 3 or Mass Effect or even Diablo 2) and have a better time playing it. -
Very much looking forward to it. But I am accepting that it may not be here before the end of the year.
-
I'm looking forward more to Grim Dawn than Diablo 3, but there is no question Diablo 3 will be a great game, in time.
-
Don't know why they did it, but BioWare Austin is handling SWTOR. Their Edmonton studio should be handling ME. -
In regard to co-op play... I've never been a big fan, hopefully it won't be required to have a complete experience of the game.
Edit: and about the release time... I think we should get serious. Starcraft 2 (S2) is a 3 part videogame, and if Blizzard holds to its working schedule... only 1 game will be released at a time and I think it's weird they'd release D3 before the expansions of S2. -

Blizzard online games are by far the best experience i ever had.
WoW never had bots (not that you can see anyway) and all hacks are rather quickly eliminated. SCII and WC3 are awesome experience. D2 was ok but i didnt have fast enough internet back then...
My complain about Diablo serie as a whole is that it didnt have much re-playability, poor multiplayer and were "too short" in general. But i am pretty sure it will be well worth the money be it 30 or 60 usd. -
Status - patiently awaiting diablo 3

There were a few unique selling points of D2 that made it timeless (most other games don't cover these):
- Hardcore mode (when you die, you lose EVERYTHING, forever)
- infinite loot variety (via magical items, rare items, and crafted items) with a GARGANTUAN list of modifiers, affixes / suffixes and the like, many with very unique and complex effects
- extremely rare loots. Things like high runes, high-level uniques, and mostly-so "perfect rares" (like 400%ED, 2 socket, 40% IAS ethereal self-repair berserker axe) which may or may not have ever dropped in this decade of D2's existance.
- very fast game pace. modifiers like ias (increase attack speed), fcr (faster cast rate), etc combined with skills like teleport, vigor, charge, leap, frenzy, make the game incredibly fast late-game. Players literally zip around like supermen casting / hitting at machine-gun rates while strategically avoiding damage.
- brutal pvp / pk system. Anyone can hostile anyone else over level 9 without consent. not many other games are brave enough to use this. I'm sure most of us veteran D2 players are really used to it already, it really adds another level of surprise to the game when you hear the hostility sound out of nowhere in a baal-run in hell difficulty.
If D3 even covers half of these, it will also become a legendary status game. Otherwise it will no doubt be labelled as watered down by many critics who have played and understood the charms of D2. -
There are better ways to make children pay without making them want to kill themselves after loosing said "perfect" items that he was gathering for a year in 1 minute. Those are implemented in WoW. Just fyi.
Randomly generated loot and dungeons were steps in the right direction ofc, not denying it. -
Will definitely get. It should be released by the time I get back from Afghanistan.
I put so much much time into D2, and definitely enjoyed it. I think there will be enough new stuff that the same problem won't happen as with SC2. -
Also, most people play softcore in Diablo II, so there is no way to lose items unless you trade it away, or a muling game crashes (if it's a really godly item, you would ask a friend to help with the muling anyhow).
World of Warcraft item mechanics are horrible if you try to complement it with a non-massive MORPG like D2 or D3. -
huh. As I recall Mass Effect: 3 is being pushed to 2012. -
They can perfectly add instanced pve time to time and updated loot.
I am not yet sure how d3 will work out in terms of multiplayer, just hope it will be more "epic", "lasting" and "skill-based" then d2. Dont want another DA:Origins that you complete in 20 hours once and for all. I have strong belief and blizzard though -
D3 is beginning to look like some arcade console game because of ridiculous attack animations.
YouTube - Diablo 2 Bowazon Mix
D2 - nice and clean arrow effects
D3 YouTube - Diablo III - Demon Hunter - Gameplay HD
Are those flamethrowers and daggers w/ smoke grenades attached? And then all D3 characters are renamed D1/D2 ones with skills shuffled. -
Personally, most of the games listed as competitors to Diablo aren't even interesting at all to me. I'm a strategy gamer by and large, but the only other genre that excites me are Diablo-style action RPGs. I like loot driven games, but I love fast non turn based combat. If I wanted turn-based combat at all, I'd go play some D&D and be done with it.
* Mass Effect 1+2, Fallout 3, Dragon Age 1+2, World of Warcraft among others -
Can't wait. In fact I'm hoping to upgrade to a new Asus g7X of some sort at the same time I get this game. I remember the big wait for D2 and it delivered so I'm hoping D3 follows suit.
-
SCII you can count on cheats. They worked in beta and some still work now.
(that guy didn't craft all those units in .1 seconds and you know it)
WoW bots operate in instances... you don't think those gold sellers really earn their gold the old-fashioned way do you? Apparently out of sight is out of mind for some people.
Speed hacks, killshot hacks, invuonerable hacks of various types... all of these have worked in WoW at one point or another.
And their lack of concept of balance in WoW is just plain atrocious. When 90% of winning PvP classes/teams are alike, its time to figure out why.
(Rogue guaranteed wins, Druid healing = godmode, dual warror stunlock, invulnerable paladin one-shot mode, just to name a few)
D2 if the guy went hostile on battle.net you can COUNT on them being a cheater and in 1-hit-1-kill mode (regardles of level or equipment) while completely immune to everything without the proper cheat to reverse it.
The only PvP that was any good was arranged PvP with friends. (and due to class balance problems, was very restricted)
Worst of all, battle.net is the worst community of gamers in existence save perhaps WoW. (WoW is like babysitting for anyone over the mental age of 11.)
Blizzard is a victim of their own popularity... and their complete lack of care whether someone cheats in their games.
They do make great single-player and LAN games though.
(I really wish they'd return the LAN component) -
ehh from what i've seen i think they are gearing this to be more pvm than the pvp d2 had.
I liked d2 for the pvp, albeit it was riddled with hackers and bugs. But aside from that it was fun when legit. I just hope d3 has the same item system as well with random rolls and uniques. Borderlands had the most similar system i would say in terms of item drops because it was all completely random. -
Action-RPG as noted above is very different from the "traditional" RPG more focused on storyline and character development than combat.
The Diablo franchise set a market down for many other games of its kind to follow, however I share Bog's concerns that the artwork, mechanics and gameplay are heading in the wrong direction. Nonetheless Blizzard have the time and funds to tune it to their heart's content before official release. -
-
I love D2's non-consensual hostile system. It's just that the game, AND battle.net 1.0, were so old that cheats were rampant, and so things like TPPK (which was only recently patched out) were a headache on hardcore mode.
With D3 and battle.net 2.0, expect a huge cut in hacks and cheats and bots.
Then again they are removing all functions that made D2 unpredictable. -
You could also skip Multiplayer and play single player instead. Diablo 2 with enemies immune to physical attacks. Fun enough
-
The thing about Diablo two and the bots/duping is that the whole economy is built on them. There would be nearly no on who could have all those runewords if they actually had to find those runes or get them in trade with their own hard earned runes. They have actually upped the hit points and defense needed to play the game to reflect all those high powered items which means the entire game would need to be rebalanced to account for what would amount to their loss. All reports I have read seem to indicate that in 3 they are not going to let the game get away from them which is what essentially happened in 2.
-
I don't see the appeal of D3 in todays market. With the open world environments and availability of groups, pvp and instances in almost every mmo I think d3 will struggle to be competitive.
I enjoyed d3's predecessors but I wouldn't have spent a moment with them if todays crop of mmo's were available then. The closed world dungeon crawl experience just seems like an anachronism. Aside from nostalgia I guess I don't see this gamesvreason for being.
Clearly, many folks seem excited about the game so perhaps my opinion is on the outside of mainstream here. -
I would totally sell some strangers' babies if I could get my hands on a fully-polished D3 right now.
Though I daresay that if it were Skyrim out first instead it might just work. I'm playing Oblivion again -
I used to be a real fan of Diablo having both of them and all expansion packs. I had the horn for Diablo 3 but after all these years other games have evolved significantly and I believe the graphics in D3 are long surpassed now. I could be wrong however I get the impression that D3 won't even hold a candle to Dragon Age Origins and that's pretty much along the same theme.
-
Diablo isn't a MMO, it isn't trying to be. Diablo is Diablo and you apparently have no idea of the level of interest Diablo III is generating.
Yes, many folks are excited so your opinion is way off as it will sell millions of copies and have a gigantic following. Likely bigger than D2 which still is being played by millions of people. -
I'm surprised at how many people just don't get it. -

Yeah graphics are not a biggie as long as they are acceptable.
Gear grinding and stuff is what its about to me, and like I said just having a good time dungeon crawling with some buds. -
Part of it too is getting just the right setup, gear, stats, skills, making the perfect character. In the early days I had fun PvP but pretty soon it seemed like it was one cheat after another and I stopped all together with that portion of it. I don't mind dying and I did plenty of it since I had no great skills at it but I want to win or lose fair.
Diablo 3 - Maybe not far off, who is looking forward to it?
