It's completely different performance-wise, you can't really draw any real comparisons between D3 and D1/2. Diablo I / II were 2D sprite-based games, while D3 is full 3D engine. You could run Diablo I and II on toasters really since they need bare minimum to no 3D processing (seriously, Diablo II only runs at 25 frames per second cap, with all of its gameplay features based on that framerate cap, it's THAT archaic); Diablo III is more power-hungry since it's a 2012 game, and is in the same ballpark as what Starcraft II needs in terms of PC specs.

Challenge Accepted! Now to go build a toaster to play D2
Wait we called those Pentium 4's and I already did that. -

So what is Diablo 3
dead serious, never played the series. What's the hype all about
-
Well after the server fix, the game runs like a dream. before I was working on a steady 100-350 ping. now I never go above 65. Better late than never.
-
i'm connecting from asia to the europe server and play with 3 friends from spain and the netherlands, with a ping of always around 300 and it is smooth, no lag experienced so far, so much less ping depending than bf3 for example
-
Lots of Diablo fans have been waiting for 10 years for Diablo III, others don't know about it but bought it instantly due to nostalgia values. Personally I think it's the weak link of the series because they tried to streamline it too much but hey, that's just my (and a good fraction of Diablo II fans') opinion. -
I still find the gameplay way too easy... granted, I am still in normal.
(It could just be the Witchdoctor is overpowered...)
I have been enjoying the story and the humor and side-jokes put in the game, tooltips, and flavor texts.
Example: Berzerk rage skill flavor text "You wouldn't like me when I am angry" - David Banneren -

I would expect normal to be easy...;x

I'm actually have quite a hard time staying connected to the servers.
i'm getting error 316704, followed by 3007. which forces me to relog into my account. This was happening every 5-10 mins for hrs yesterday. If i log into the Asia servers, i don't get that. Its something to do with the NA servers. I haven't tried EU servers. It makes the game impossible to play. You get going killing monsters, then it happens, you relog and you start at the beginning of the waypoint again. It makes it very hard to proceed
And i can see from their forums that its affecting a ton more people...probably affects everyone just more for some and less for others
So blizzard better get their act together and fix all the little gremlins -

So far they could double the damage of hits for the mobs in the first two acts and it still would be easier than D2's first two acts. -

I went probably 40 mins yesterday while i was constantly killing monsters and it was fine...go back into town to sell some stuff...bam, disconnected.
Some have also had luck if they enable the general chat while in game. Seems to keep it from happening or at least prolong the time for it to happen. -
Running my Lenovo Y570, Core i7 2670QM 2.2ghz, geforce 555m, 8GB RAM
Running it at 1440x900, everything high, shadows med, AA on
Just got into the skeleton king area where there were tons of skeletons and 4 pillars I had to destroy. My FPS tanked to 10ish there.
Am I the only one experiencing this or what? My average FPS feels like 30-40. How can I show it on the screen?
I just feel like my computer should be able to run this better.
As for gameplay, the FPS issue is getting in the way sometimes.
I'm playing a Wizard, and I just got the merc. I have frost nova and the knockdown spell hotkeyed, as well as that arcane shot and the ice beam thing. When I get a group of stuff, I run in, frost nova, knockdown, and then go to down with the merc. Most of the crowd dies in the first 5 seconds.
Wizard is pretty cool. It reminds me more of the mage from WoW than the Mage from Diablo 2. -

Both machines in my rig is playing high everything with shadow off. my bro say the k53 lag a bit in intensive fight (768p), I running on 1080p and can dip to 20fps with 4 players. (My fps meter go crazy most of the time, but i can see 40s-60s in single player/duo)
I think d3 sometimes give cpu spike, so probably keep min clock higher can help.
By the way any1 running windowed or fullscreen window? fullscreen window fps is nightmare for me, 20s compare to 40s. -

Solid 60fps pretty much at 6240x1200

I've tried playing this game 3 times today and have been disconnected within a half an hour each time. I think I'm done until they get this sorted out. I won't even comment on how being disconnected from a single-player game makes me feel. Except for that sentence. And that one. And that. And that. And...
Anyone else in this boat? I'm thinking it's not just me because my connection is otherwise fine. -
I have crazy good connection, still getting disconnected, their servers are dying right now.. such a rookie mistake not deploying enough servers before the launch of a game like d3..
BTW, it may very well be that they put half an hour limit of connection just to distribute capacity as much as possible.. -

AND
i haven't been disconnected tonight. So this is getting promising. 1 1/2 hrs of playing straight -
Wait, I thought they were going to disable triple monitor resolutions?
-
I've a lamo Radeon 7770 coming tomorrow to throw into my desktop to play games on for awhile, should be enough for D3/WoW on decent settings. I saw that I could buy a GTX 460 for the same price but would need a bigger PSU to run. I figure it will hold me over until I get the M17x situation resolved and leave me with a nice media center PC afterward. -
10 fps in some big fights. This sucks. I thought a Geforce 555m, core i7 2.2ghz and 8gm ram would've been more than enough for this.

But in this case no actual hacking is needed just full screen windowed mode. -
Whew! Finally done with Act II. It took me about 10 hours playing alone for Act I & II. I died 4 times against Act II boss

Still working to solve FPS issue.
Core i7 2.2ghz, geforce 555m, 8gb ram, 296.10 geforce drivers
Checked temps while playing:
Ingame shot of fps:
And I get 8800 3dmark06, which is about 5-600 points low. >< -
I get about 70fps average. You should be getting decent frame rates too. Did you check your vents if its clear of dust etc?Attached Files:

Yup, it's a thermal problem. 95C+ and you're laptop is going to start throttling itself to protect itself.

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Did you set your Foreground FPS to high? I had set mine to 200 and my 5870's got upto 105'c. dropped it to 100 and they are @ 85'c now.
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
do you guys know how the background fps works? Should i set it higher than the default 8fps?
Currently my foreground is set at 150 -
With vsync foreground doesn't really matter much, I have my foreground set at 200, it "seems" smoother to me, but in reality it is always locked at 60, just when I put foreground at like 80 or something it seems a little choppier even though it says the FPS is locked at 60. I haven't had any heat problems. -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Basically, the background FPS is when the game is running in the background. (I.e. Alt+Tabbed out) I think that you should keep it to the default 8. For the Foreground if you have Vsync enabled might as well set it to your refresh rate.
EDIT: Ninja'd by seconds! Should change his name to YodaGoneNinja! -
What's everyone getting for latency? Mine is averaging around 300, and when it spikes theres a noticeable delay between hitting a button and having the spell cast.
-
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Noob question!
How do you check your latency in game? -

It is a little bar on the bottom right side of the screen.
Early the morning of launch I was getting sub 80 ping, after one of the big crashes and "optimizations" later in the day my ping jumped to 180 average, my ping to google is 20. I think they greatly increased capacity on their existing servers, such that they are basically overloading the infrastructure. The ping is a lot higher now, and it is often noticeable in-game. Hopefully it improves and goes back to the sub 100 range, a ping of 200 or higher is basically dial-up responsiveness, which is really bad.

After temps:
Ingame with new temps at 1680x1050, max settings, medium shadows, AA on
Seems more playable, I'd say. FPS did go up, but it's hard to tell yet. I was in a big firefight and for once, I died because I made a stupid decision instead of low fps. Plus I realized the second merc sucked compared to my templar that heals, has good gear, and just got a passive regenerating ability. -
This is complete BS!
I logged out yesterday with 100k gold and the completion of Act 3 Quest 7.
Today I log on, my progress was rewound to Act 2 and my gold reduced to 6k. It's not a hacker since my progress was also rewound.
I'm furious right now! I have to wait for Blizzard to respond, which is taking forever. -
