If you buy a digital copy of diablo you can obviously run it from the HD. If you buy the dvd version and install the game, do you still need the disc in to play?
-
No, you won't need the disc.
-
Another Diablo question: will you need Origin/Battlenet/Steam to play it? Will Blizzard release a Battlenet client for Diablo when it comes out? I don't see one on their site now.
-
A Battle.net account will be needed with your actual name I believe (to work with the auction house function -- MAYBE). A Battle.net account with any name otherwise.
-
Are you sure you don't need the disc to play if you installed it. Havent played a pc game in a while and back in the day I needed the disc in to play.
-
nope, they have digital version for sale @ battle.net. You must have access to internet to play though
-
So if you buy the disc version, you will need the disc to play? Can you play single player if u have the disc then?
-
Doesn't matter how you buy it and install it -- no disc is needed to play. But you have to have a Battle.Net account and you have to have an internet connection to play -- no playing, single player or multi-player, is possible without an internet connection to Blizzard's servers.
-
If it's like SC2, you can buy the disc if you want, but you won't ever need it, even if you do. The important thing is the key which you use to register the game to your account and get unlimited access to the game download. So you can then either opt for that or install it with the disc. That is, again, if it's like SC2.
Valve games work the same way. You can get the physical copy, but all you need from the box is the registration key.
Correct me if I'm wrong. -
No disc needed. The disc will contain a portion of the data and you'll have to download the rest just like SC2 and WoW.
Not sure if it's the same in the US, but we don't get charged taxes for digital downloads, so it's something to consider if you want to save money.
Another bonus from ordering it online is that you can pre-install it now and play immediately on the release date without having to update/download anything. -

Origin = no
Battlenet = yes
Steam = no
There isn't a separate battle.net client as with steam or origin. Battle.net functionality is built into the game itself. You just launch the game executable.
Yes, we're sure.

With all of Blizzards titles you can simply enter the serial key number that comes with the 'retail copy' of the game into your Battle Net account on the Blizzard page and then have a digital copy of the game. Either way, Retail or Digitial it is going to be treated the same. Internet connection required and no DVD in the drive.
I still like to purchase retail copies to get the 'physical item' then simply install the game digitally via the serial key.

Me too. Call me anal, but I still like to have a physical representation of my possessions sitting neatly on a shelf. Also, I like to own the actual disc with the data on it as opposed to only a virtual license to download the data for as long as it is available. :]
In the case of Blizzard and Valve games, if you buy digital, you get digital. If you buy physical, you get physical and digital. So, you might as well go physical, the way I see it. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
As long as you recognize that this is totally irrational, I suppose this is okay.
You're right, in that you do own the disc, and the disc has the game data on it. However, you're still 100% at the mercy of Blizzard providing you the game service. Diablo 3 in particular is online only. Valve games are essentially the same situation. You can't play Valve games without activating them on steam, regardless of the disc. -
I was gonna get the physical copy, but I figured I'm gonna pay $59 + taxes.
-
You gotta hand it to Blizzard. That's a way to put a major dent into pirating the game. I personally hate having a game that requires an internet connection. So i'll pass on this. I may pickup Diablo II again.
Does anyone know if there's a utility for Diablo II to support higher resolutions? -
Can i buy the physical copy and still download the digital download since I own a copy?
The notebook i ordered will be using a hd replacing the optical drive -
Yes. by linking the key to your battle.net account.
-
Do i need to install the game first?
-
No. Log onto your Battle Net account, then go to the 'account' tab. In the summary page of 'account' is a nice big green button called 'Add Game'. Press this, then enter the 'Game Key' and viola!
Once yu have linked that copy (of the game) to your Battle Net account you can simply click the 'download game / client' option.
Boz -
As the previous poster said, no you don't need to install the game first. I entered my Starcraft II key first in Battlenet.net before I installed the game.
-
i got a question:
Does it actually require GOOD internet connection and do you suffer a lot from it?
Lets say i have horrible 3g internet in the village (i am spending some time there @ summer). Its slow and tend to dc time to time. Will i be able to play solo? I mean is it more like sc2 (you need internet to login and to chat but you can play vs ai even if connection is bad) or its more like wow? -

My reply is solely based off of beta but there were days when I logged in and the lag was terrible. It wasn't computer lag but battle.net lag...ahh the good old days of battle.net.
Yeah unless Bliz does something about this D3 will not be fun -
My friend from Argentina with a 1MB connection used to play competitive high-ranked WoW arena with me and he never had an issue, so 1MB and beyond should be very suitable for gaming

Guys, is battlenet the only place to download this game? Kinda sucks as i've got a credit at another online retailer

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Unfortunately, Blizzard put a stranglehold on pre-order Digital Downloads, but I got my copy from Amazon, with free release date shipping. So I am not to worried, + I downloaded the client already, just waiting for my key to install it. -
I'm pretty certain digital downloading is strictly Blizzard-only.
-
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Blizzards Diablo 3 forums suck! I can't post on there because I have no character on record... Shouldn't no one have a a character on record?
-
No, I know it's silly, don't worry. :]
The differences are small and, to many, negligible. It's just my preference. -
I played SC2 multiplayer (1v1 ladder matches) on 0.75 Mbps wifi and didn't have a problem.
-
Online gaming is affected more by latency (lag) than your bandwidth. Even if you have less than 1mbps bandwidth if your latency is so low then you will have better playing experience than someone with 15mbps but with 500ms latency.
Try to check your latency. Acceptable latency is subjective but for me, single player campaign can be acceptable up to 500ms. But PVP or multiplayer should be less than 100ms. -
^^ What he said! Lots of people mistake bandwidth for latency. Basically you just need around 256kbps or 512kbps to play 99% of the games out there which takes care of bandwidth. Rest is up to your connection latency which depends on distance and routing.
-
in our country 3g internet is known for both bad latency, low bandwidth and disconnects. HOWEVER if you are saying that occasional spikes to 500-600 in solo playing will work i think i might give it a try.
-
i play from asia on europe servers and have a ping around 300 when playing with 3 friends sitting in europe and never experienced any lag so far, so d3 isn't ping depending like bf3 for example, i guess
oh and the digital download worked like a charm
there is the client download
http://eu.battle.net/en/int
and there i purchased just the key
g2play.net -
If you are playing on 300ms, its really going to be hard to obviously experience lag if what you are doing are questing or finishing campaigns.
Lag normally affects player doing something like pvp, when playing against other players with good latency.
If you have 300ms lets say and the other guy has 50ms and you are dueling, your skills will always be behind. Its like in your screen he is in front of you but in his screen, he is already stabbing you from behind.
But for solo play, yes, even 500ms is playable. I used to play Wow on 500-800ms in Dubai on EU server and I thought I was so terrible at PVP. When I moved to US, I bought a US account and was surprised that I wasn't really that bad after getting 50ms lol. -

I don't think this should be an issue for single player. -
