$60!? Ulgh it's the start of a new trend, but at the same time, if the developers can get more money to keep churning out great PC exclusives, then it's not a big issue. However, I'm sure the executives at Activision Blizzard are all for pushing the price of PC games up unless that price is just a placeholder by Gamestop until they get the real price (hopefully $50!).
-
Not really a new trend. Diablo 3 is made by ActiBlizzard. Same people as MW 2 (same for a ceo)

Yeah I know, but Blizzard is pretty PC centric, so I wonder if they'll dispute against the Activision side raising PC game prices.
-
I am still a little confused as to why it's even up right now. All the Diablo sites I have been on are saying no way to a 2010 release whatsoever only 2011.
-
Gamestop is the same company that offered preorders of Duke Nukem Forever back in 2001, so there's not really a time limit before release that they adhere to.
And as for the price, games going to $60 is inevitable. We've been at $50 for a very long time now, and if you consider inflation, as well as the rising costs to produce a game, $60 isn't really farfetched. -
lmao that is an epicly awesome receipt, I am sure worth tons on ebay
meh I would pay $60 in a heartbeat for D3, still have D2 on my adamo
-
Agreed i'd gladly pay $60, and as Lithus pointed out some good reason for the increase. Just means I better finish studying for my computer certifications so I can afford all the nice games on my list/future lists.
-
2011? Yikes, I wonder why they announced the game so early.
-
Being bought by activision was the worst thing that ever happened to blizzard...
-
Blizzard wasn't bought by Activision. Vivendi - parent company of Blizzard - bought/merged with Activision.
-
umm you guys read the notice right?
"Official pricing and release dates have not been announced by Blizzard. Price and release date listed are estimates only and subject to change. Worry Free Guarantee - if the price decreases between the time you place your preorder and the release date, youll receive the lower of the two. " -
and what happens if the price is actually higher? do you have to pay the difference??
And really... dont quit your day job / hold your breath or what ever about a release date for D3, blizzard is notorious for epically long times on game development (Take StarCraft 2 as an example, press release first said release at end of 2009, which has been pushed back to 2010)...
Also, just a thought... from a business stand point, i bet that there will be a nice long (Looooong) period between the release of Starcraft 2 and D3 in order to make sure to maximize sales of Starcraft 2 before people start rushing for D3... -
Cheeky of Gamestop to start pre-orders and include the disclaimer notice in the fine print, but I suppose lots of retail stores do this nowadays.
-
They always always do this; announce 2 years before release and then delay the game at least a year. Probably they've tightened up the release schedules a bit so that now they'll probably manage it in 2 years, but still it's far too early to announce the game.
Particularly as by the time they announce it they're already years and years into development and the bloody thing looks almost complete as it is.
Obviously Blizzard games are nigh on flawless but I'm sure there's a serious amount of faffing going on in those 2 years - over-fiddling with StarCraft 2 units stats etc. to make them balanced, but just going overboard and taking too long over it.
It becomes an incredibly frustrating experience being a Blizz fan.
Well it has to be out before 2012, you're gonna see their next MMO in 2012... possibly 2013
-
The price tag isn't a real trend I think, bobby kotick just knows he can get away with it and sell millions... IT'S DIABLO III!!!
-
Um, the disclaimer is in the consumer's favor. You get the game for the CHEAPER price, be it the pre-order price or the shelf price. So if it costs $70 at release, you get it for the 60 you paid, and if it costs 50, they give you $10 back. I'm no fan of Gamestop, but let's give credit where it is due here.
-
Where are you getting these rising costs to produce (im assuming you mean develop, but w/e) games?
-
They don't even have Act 2 of a total 4 acts done, yet. I wouldn't expect D3 any time before 2012. We'll probably be playing SW:TOR before D3.

They focus on consoles, but it's the same for PC games. -
It's not the disclaimer that I'm faulting, but stores opening "pre-orders" for games that developers themselves have no intention of releasing within the calendar year that irks me. The other assumption here is that Gamestop actually honours their pricing policy which I have no first-hand experience of.
