    February 7th Release

I'm anxious to see this game finally get released and hope that Target and the above linked article are correct. On a related note, I renewed my WoW subscription the other day and opted for the 12 month contract that includes a free copy of Diablo III. I'll be paying for WoW anyway so why not get Diablo for free with it? :D

Sounds like a retailer "estimated release date" which is best described as a "guess" and even that is being nice considering this is a Blizzard game.

I wouldn't believe anything until it comes from the mouth of Blizzard.

There was that whole debacle with the Amazon.de site. Sending an email to those who pre-ordered the game saying "We have been told by the 'developers' that the game will be released in June 2012" ....

    here was Blizz' Response:

On a side note ... the DIII opening cinematic will be shown this Saturday at the Spike TV Video Game Awards ... perfect opportunity to announce the release date? LETS HOPE SO !!!

Better than sticking with a date and then releasing a buggy product (looking at you Bethseda) just to maximize profits.

Noooo, please don`t let it be June FFS.
Blizzard were targeting late 2011 but didn`t make it. I`m hopeful that we will see it around february :)

Hmm I guess Feb 2013... but we all die in December 2012, so it never comes out.

I can't believe it's taking so long. This games conception was 8 or 9 years ago. This is RIDICULOUS. Especially considering it's going to be the same overhead scrolling platform. It better be every bit as great as the original was for this wait...

Yep that's why I still respect Blizzard. VALVe also has similar motto.

Disagree on VALVe. Their games are buggy at times and mostly are re-hashes on the easy to work with and outdated Source. Not as good as Blizzard's work. ArenaNet would be a better comparison to VALVe. They STILL have not announced the release date for Guild Wars 2.

I wouldn't make it "official" more like a retailer estimation.

They probably sat on it for a while, wrote some background story, etc. Waited for systems to become a little more powerful and continued to let artists do basic design, and then started seriously coding 3-5 years ago.

I wouldn't call the development time ridiculous unless you've done better in less time.

You have to hand it to Blizzard... they make VERY good games and they are very good at making money from these games.

At this point Blizzard has let the hype grow and milked the other games. Now they will eventually release D3 to rabid fans who will kill (real people) to get their hands on their new game.

Blizzard does likely hold a product to make a previous product lifecycle longer, but it does so while it polishes the product. It's actually quite efficient.

I STILL play D2 sometimes... and while I won't kill for D3, I will buy it despite my disappointment with the lack of LAN play. (I hate battle.net with a passion.)

I just installed and played some Diablo II for the first time in about 8yrs. For being over 10yrs old this game is still awesome.

I'm already willing to bet it takes at least RPG of the year in 2012. As much as I love the TES series and was looking forward to Skyrim it's safe to say that I have never been as excited for a game release as I am for Diablo III.

I think Torchlight 2 will put this to shame really. (Back on topic) The release date seems plausible if we get a notification of "gone gold" before the end of January. Has anyone watched anyone streaming this game yet like Pokket or any of the others? Lets just hope for the best and hope its much better than what was streamed. just my .02

Wow, the new cinematic is unreal. I cant remember the last time I was that hooked on a video.

Diablo 3 will deliver. Also, for those that havent played it, Diablo 2 is still pretty fun. Amazing for such an old game
