I wanna see if this will play on my notebook at all, which is pretty weaksauce. LOL

I have/own COD4, and it runs alright on it, but I can't pull the trigger on buying COD5 to only find out if it runs crappy.

COD5 runs similarly to COD4...minor improvements, little performance drop.

    I don't think they did.

    COD 5 definitely doesn't run as smooth as 4 on my 9800m gts - med/high settings on a 1920x1200 resolution. In 4 I probably get 60fps+, in 5 45ish.

They had an open beta for the last month before it came out, could have been a little longer

Well, when I was in the store, it said optimized for multi-core so I thought I could benefit from that.

I play COD4 right now at 1280 by something resolution, low settings, and I get ~30fps

If could get the same FPS at the approximate resolution, I think it be worth buying

The performance loss could be attributed to high settings made even higher, and maybe not effect low as much. But I can't test myself, since I've long deleted the CoD4 demo and I only have WaW. WaW certainly doesn't run like CoD4 on high, and it's more stutter prone. I could play the CoD4 demo at 1600 x 900 without a problem, in WaW it's 1366 x 768 and I have to limit the FPS to 30 to fix stuttering. Multiplayer runs much smoother however, and I'd think you could manage that on low at 1280 x 800. That's where all the fun is found :D

Yep. They had an open beta program for a short time, but there was no actual demo released in the sense that you're asking.

COD5 uses the same graphics engine as COD4 (with some minor improvements) , so if it can play COD4, it will play COD5 at slightly lowered settings.

cod:waw uses shader model 3.0, while cod4 used SM 2.0. There is a drastic reduction in fps at high settings with this game. in cod4 i can avergae 250 fps constant with all settings low, AF16x,trilinear,extra textures,1440x900. COd5 will the same settings maxes me out at about 150 staying closer to 100fps, so yes there is a drastic performance hit from the two games.

Unfortunately, there is no demo for COD: WAW.

It runs similiarly to COD4, so you can play COD: WAW at slightly lower settings than you play COD4 and you should get the same performance.
