Let's not talk about whether it's overrated or whatnot on sites like IGN or Gamespot, but did anyone not like Bioshock?
I didn't like it, and it's the only game that I could not force myself to finish. After my first install, I found myself struggling to keep my interest in that game. So I uninstalled it, played Rainbow Six Vegas and beat it for the second time, and then some Medieval II Total War, and then I reinstalled Bioshock, and still could not find any interest...
I've played many many games, and I've finished/beat all of them at least once (some more than once, such as Diablo II, Starcraft, Rainbow Six's, Splinter Cell's, Age of ___ series, and other classics). But I don't know what's with Bioshock that made it seem not that interesting. Maybe it's because my hopes for the game was too high? It's definitely not the scare-factor, I've beaten all the Doom games - from the first one that came out in 97 (was it 97?) which I've beaten (yes the whooole game) many times to Doom 3 that just came out years ago, I found all of them enjoyable.
Anyone else didn't like the game?

Sorry, I'm one that usually has a hard time finishing any FPS game because I get bored, too difficult, or it's just plain bad.
Bioshock wasn't meant to be a scare-fest as much as have an eerie atmosphere with an engaging story. Doom 3 scared the bejeezus out of me, but wasn't expecting this from Bioshock.
Maybe it was just your expectations of it being a horror game that ruined it. Overall the game was great, and in the end a very satisfying game with a few fresh ideas with a good story. -

Meh, bioshock wasn't my type. It looks good, but it's not my type for games.
-
I didn't much like the demo, but still ended up getting the game. I opted to go for Xbox 360 version because the controls feel so much smoother on that system. While I am playing it I have a lot of fun, but I just can't seem to finish it! I don't know why... with Mass Effect being so much fun it seems even less likely I'll get around to finishing it.
It seems to be one of those games I'll warm up to over time.
Also, the first areas are not as cool as the later areas, at least in my opinion. -
thats alright differnt strokes for different folks, some games just dont do it for others crysis really didnt do it for me either, was a nice game, great btw but in the end its still the vegetation. meh didnt finish it either
-
Haven't had a chance to play it personally, but my friend won't shut up about how much he hates it, lol. But I don't think any FPS has kept me entertained as well as CoD4. Now THAT'S one hell of an FPS.

I got about 1/2 thru, Its a great game for effect and visuals (also this is one game that I would refuse to play unless I could play it with good visual settings and a good sound system) I did stop playing it tho because I got kind of tired of the aspect of scrounging around for money and ammo and stuff and getting semi lost. However I got a new game to play I think it was the Orange Box and thats the only real reason I stoped playing.
I want to get back around to it and finish it at some time, but its a game that once I beat it I dont think I will ever go back to play it again, atleast not for a very long time. So for that reason for FPS's I would prefer something like TF2 in the Orange Box or Battle Field 2142 since they are multi player they have a near infinite replay value and ultimately when it comes to games I think thats one of the most important aspects is the replay value.
Then again, many will argue Bioshock has a ton of replay since there are so many different ways to build up your character and different ways to kill guys so maybe d/l the demo and see for yourself if it appeals to you. -
Watched a few clips of it on youtube - it looks really, really boring.
I don't care how real the water looks. -
Didn't like it at all.. And I bought it too...
-
Bioshock story is great, but the way it is presented is very bad (you should listen to ******* boring tapes)
That what makes me hate this game....
I bought it then after few days sold it without finishing it....
From my point of view...this is the most hyped game for the year
if you want a shooting game with bad story presentation (boring) get bioShock
other wise COD4 is the ONE!!! -
I've seen Bioshock, but it just doesn't interest me at all. The demo did nothing to sway my opinion. Though I guess if you want to pretend you're Roy Mustang it might be interesting.

Bioshock is a really odd bird and I can understand why some people didn't care for it.
There are a lot of great games out there that I just, for the life of me, can't seem to get into the same way other people do. Any of the Tom Clancy games outside of R6: Vegas, the CoD games, the Battlefield games...
And then my general disdain for Half-Life 2 springs to mind.
Bioshock also didn't seem to me to have all that flexibility in building your character that people said it does. By the end of the game you have such an asinine amount of Adam that you can buy almost everything anyhow.
It's my game of the year (beating Portal only because Portal is so freaking short and lacking replay), but it ain't perfect, I'll grant that. -
If you liked the older System Shock games then Bioshock is almost certainly a disappointment, it turned out to be more conventional as a good looking FPS rather than the tactical first-person RPG that the system shock series was more akin to.
Lots of reviewers liked the story and the concepts, but like others have said already the presentation and general gameplay would have turned many off before they finished the game. -
I don't think the presentation was bad, maybe the style wasn't what you liked. I had it on the 360 and got to the very early stages of the game. Didn't even get to fight a big daddy but i still think the game is good. The only problem is my 360 has red ring of death so i couldn't play anyway. You don't really have to listen to the tapes and the environment designs look superb. The game is kinda scary for me cause of the environments and i got stuck on a few levels.

I'm in the same boat.
I've never really liked the "Shock" series, in terms of gameplay, even though I usually love their story.
I didn't quite like the gameplay mechanics of System Shock 2 (Especially the fact that a perfectly fine gun would explode in your hands the first time you try to use it just because you don't have the skills necessary to use that gun...), but I did love the ending of it. It's a shame EA owns the license so they can't make a System Shock 3
... I really want to know what happens afterwards!
Likewise with Bioshock, I didn't really like the game, and I haven't finished it. However, from what I've heard, the ending was somewhat lacklustre... Oh well, maybe I'll finish it and find out one day.

I agree with most of you - the graphics IS good and the game is pretty well-optimized. But I don't agree with it being a good story. I find the story very hard to follow and it struggles to grab and keep my interest. Maybe it gets sidetracked too much and too often. The story is not as tight and compact as that of Gears of War where you know what you need to and what you are trying to do. I didn't understand the story at all both time I played it; the only part I understood was that my plain crashed and I somehow ended up in an underwater, failed-utopian society. And I HATE utopian societies because of all the research papers I had to write on those stupid things.

I am starting to hate games built on the UT3 engine. The movement seems robotic like and it is not smooth. I`ve noticed it in UT3,Bioshock,Timeshift,BlackSite Area 51.
Apart from that , Bioshock was not fun for me. Installed it in august, still have not finished it. -
I can see where people grow tired of Bioshock. I'm in the process of playing it now every couple of days, but it kind of gets repetitive. If they had made the game more Myst like with the majority of the game being about exploration then I think it would grab more people, but so far it's just a pretty fps.
-
I wasn't crazy about Bioshock either. I pretty much had to force myself to finish the game as I lost interest. It was fun for a while, but it seems to drag on the further I got into it.

I didn't like bioshock or crysis. But oddly enough I love GRAW2

Bioshock is all hypes, it's high review aren't really something. I was watching Video Game awards on Spike TV and they nominated a few good games of the year 2007. These games included Halo 3, Orange Box, COD4, Bioshock (of course), Super Mario Galaxy, Mass Effect, DiRT and few others I don't remember, but I was surprised by the fact that out of all the games they nominated Bioshock to be Game of the Year;however other games mention above did get genre specific titles such as Best Shooters, Best RPG, etc. For a list of the titles here's a youtube link, sorry it's so boringly presented but hey it is a the fastest way to see the list without watch the whole show. =P

CoD4 is easily the best shooter out today. Its very, very engaging, and it really puts you straight in the middle of things. Overall, looks better and plays MUCH BETTER than Crysis imo. Of course, that is comparing apples to oranges. I say apples are better. That said, I do enjoy them both.
I never liked any of the other CoD games, either.
I played the bioshock demo, I didn't even finish that... But it did look really cool. Especially the water. The atmosphere was creepy. Still didn't find it worth finishing... -
OMG!!!.....I cant belive Im hearing this.
I love Bioshock....the whole concept....living in tht 60s but still being modern.....the environment. Its down in my list of best games. Plus, 90% people in my dorms love BIOSHOCK.....2 of them who cant run BIOSHOCK on their laptops have finished it on mine. Not saying that its better than COD4.
Im currently playing COD4........and loving it like crazy......BIOSHOCK is a different category, different style for different. The game has a great story attached to it and it pretty artistic. -
I love BioShock, even more than CoD4. Fighting the Big Daddies in particular is really intense. I love the atmosphere and the plasmid system and the storyline. I didn't know so many people had these issues with it.
-
I feel the same way about Crysis. Just didn't find it too mind blowing. I thought Bioshock just brought a fresh feel to the FPS world, in terms of gameplay and storyline. I thought the storyline was pure brilliance! One of my favorite moments in gaming history is when you enter Andrew Ryan's office. Man... that was awesome.

I really liked Bioshock, I thought it was a blast to play, and the appearance was incredible, a real work of art. The only thing i didn't like was it did end, I was bummed, Bioshock 2? I played Crysis and got bored right a way and quit playing it, I'am playing Gears of war now and think its pretty boring (kill mutants, move forward, kill mutants......in a gray world) but love UT3, can't get enough of it.
-
I liked Bioshock, but I hated the last few hours. The main villain is silly and cliched and neither of the endings are even remotely satisfying.
-
Yeah I think the same thing. Bioshock was excellent. I dont think Ive got a pretty deal in Gears of War. The game is optimized pretty well but yeh the gameplay is repetitive and gets boring. Im yet to try UT3.
My birthday is coming up so I will be receiving cash and most probably I'll buy UT3.
I even like COD4 by the way.......its excellent.
Did anyone NOT like Bioshock?
