Just about every other time i open WoW now my guys colors are spotted all over the place. I don't know if these are artifacts or what but i no longer have my x1600 oc'd...but i still get teh color splotchs..... and it doesn't seem to do this in any other game.

Well, that is artifacting. And if you're not overclocking anymore maybe you should consider re-applying the cooling solution on your video card.

It sounds like you may have. If you can get warranty coverage, I'd get it replaced. Sounds like what happened to my non-OC'd 9600 in my last laptop. Just bit the dust, I don't think the airflow was that great. But go with re-seating the graphics heatsink and re-applying the thermal paste, hopefully that'll fix it. If that's against your warranty, send/take it in for repair.

reinstall WoW. FEAR and Ati Tool should both be more taxing on the GPU than WoW.

Yeah if you oc'd it it may be damaged. You can try to re apply the thermal paste with as5, but I doubt that will cure the artifacting. If any x1600/7600 artifacts on WoW then there is a seriouse issue. My little bro runs the game to the max on an old AGP desktop card no artifacting or lag.

see i dont know if its artifacting though, because ive never seen artifacting. Colors are basically just in the wrong place. But like i said its only on one character..... i never had the x1600 above 490/490, i heard mastha got his to like 530/540 or something...

Cards are always going to be different in terms of overclocking capabilities; never assume your card can be overclocked to someone else's levels. mastha's may just one that can be overclocked like crazy, and yours may be one that can only be overclocked moderately.
You just have to experiment with your own card and see how far it can go.

What I would do now is completely uninstall/reinstall the drivers and see if it fixes anything. If you can post a screenshot of what is going on/what your screen looks like, that would be helpful too.

Perhaps uninstalling/installing WoW again might work?

Also, do you have all the current patches for the game?

That doesn't look like artifacting to me.

corruption due to overheating or a fried graphic card can easily be recognized by its random nature. if restarting a game a few times always gives you the same 'corruption', then the game is probably at fault, not the video card`

yeah its always the same charcter every time. He's always corrupted. Once when i boot my private server and equiped an item the textures went corrupt but when i re-equiped it they went back to normal.

i'll try re-install wow and my drivers... thx guys im happy i didn't fry my card :)

Seems to just be a missing texture or something of that nature. Hope it works!

No that has nothing to do with overclocking, that is called texture corruption, Update your video card drivers, or downgrade to a lower version if you have the highest.
