I don't know if anyone noticed this on the dell website, but they have two different names for the 256mb ATI mobility Radeon x1400.

On some laptops, the name has "hypermemory" and on some, it doesn't.

So my question is, is the dell website referring to the exact "same" video card? or are they different?

If they are different, which one is better? The one with hypermemory or the one without?

which laptops show hypermemory and which dont? also, does it do that with the same machine, but with a higher configuration? like, does the $1500 configuration say hypermemory, while the $1000 doesnt?

I don't think that there is a 256mb without hypermemory.

If it doesnt say, might just be the reseller trying to fast-talk you.

I checked again, the sales package for Inspiron 6400 2 days ago (on dell.ca) had an upgrade for 256mb ATI mobility Radeon for $100CAD. Didn't state there was hypermemory. I even checked with the parts number between another one that has "hypermemory" and the one "without hypermemory". They had different part numbers and code.

Well anyways, I bought the Inspiron 6400 with the upgraded x1400 graphics card (didn't state anything about hypermemory) and I just wanted to clear things up because I just noticed the difference in naming.

The highest option available in the Dell Inspiron 6400/E1505 is the "256MB ATI Radeon X1400 HyperMemory." It is not all dedicated, rather 128MB dedicated + 128MB shared.
