i.e. How big of a difference between the T5250 and the T7250 and T7300?
For an 8400m GS, I say that the T5250 is good enough and getting the T7250(still has 2MB of cache) isn't worth it for another 125 bucks. However the PC in question doesn't allow the customization for the T7300 (4MB cache) unfortunately. Next option is the T7500 which is 175 more (50 more than the TL7250).

However some other people are saying that the .5 ghz is worth it. Opinions?

And also how much of a difference does the 2MB cache make? I recall some statistic being 10% but I may be incorrect. Anyone verify this?

It's all personal opinion. Since you mentioned the graphics card, I'm assuming this is for gaming?

For strictly gaming, I would not pay for the CPU upgrade if you're looking for the best money vs performance.

The extra 2mb of cache will make certain programs run faster and make zero difference in others. I'm sure you could find benchmarks through google.

Right but I'm arguing that it's worth getting the 7250 and better off spending another 75 for the 7500. Or keep the 5250.

Like I said, for gaming with an 8400 GS, the answer is no.

For other stuff, it's really up to you.

It really won't make a difference as you'll still be GPU bound in gaming.

500mhz is a lot on a C2D. I would say with an 8600M GT to get the 7250.

A rough rule of thumb is that each time you double the cache, you get 10% extra performance.
Clock speed is more or less linear (25% higher clock speed -> 25% better performance)

Those are just rules of thumb though, and the result varies a lot depending on which apps you test it with.

For gaming though, it's usually a good idea to save money on the CPU and spend extra on GPU.

I agree with Soulburner opinion. 8600m GT and T7250 for a very good system. I am assuming you are building a Dell system, and I got the same problem: no T7300 by the time I built my Vostro 1500. Stick with the T7250, the T7500 upgrade is too expensive.

yeah, if u were to get a 8600gt, i'd go for either 7250 or 7500. in ur case, however, 5250 would be sufficient.

No it's actually and HP, and you CAN'T get the 8600 on that model. Only the 8400m GS.
