    Does anyone know what the difference between the GL960 and GM965 chipsets for the Intel GMA X3100. Everywhere I look its referred to predominately as the Mobile 965GM chipset, with some places also adding the slash - GM965/GL960.

    Intel only has a datasheet for the 965...Is there any difference at all?

    I think the gm965 includes the X3100 where as laptops with the GL960 chipset use dedicated video cards.

    Thank you for the reply, but actually I dont think thats true. Im almost 100% positive both are chipsets for the integrated X3100, because I ordered a Thinkpad which was listed with "Intel GMA X3100 GM965," (integrated graphics) but on the order it names the part as GMA960.
    And GL960 is always listed together with the GM965. If it were for dedicated cards then it would probably have at least one seperate mention or reference on Intels site.

    GM965 chipset -

    * Support for DDR2 at 667MHz and 533MHz
    * Max memory supported: 4GB
    * Support for Intel Core2 Duo and Celeron processors

    GL960 chipset -

    * Support for DDR2 at 533MHz only
    * Max memory supported: 2GB
    * Support for Intel Celeron processor

    Now, I got an Extensa 4620 laptop that is basically a TravelMate 4320 (it is supposed to be GL960, considering this: http://www.acer.co.uk/public/page9....n&ctx3=147&ctx4=United+Kingdom&crc=1408622450) but it has a dual core (533fsb) and 667Mhz Ram so Celeron is not a must.
    It seems only the FSB is the difference.

    wrong about the GL960

    most laptops with the crippled t2310 have the GL960 chipset

    which would proove that it has a core 2 duo processor, just a crap one 1.46ghz 1mb cache 533mhz
    and yes, they both have x3100

    I don't agree with that. I got the Gateway ML6720 with the t2310 and cpu-z shows a GM965 rev CO. Paid less then $400 and it is better then other notebooks I paid $1100 for just a short time ago.

    GL960 is not a chipset for a dedicated. It's another variant of the 965GM. What do you think the "G" means?? Good?? Hell no, it means graphics. PM965 is the chipset for dedicated graphics. GL960 is a value version of the 965GM, its meant for a Celeron.

    GM965: 500MHz core clock/GMA X3100/DDR2-667MHz/533MHz and 800MHz FSB
    GL960: 400MHz core/clock/GMA X3100/DDR2-533MHz/533MHz FSB

    Just to add to this:

    I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 with a GM965 Chipset (AND) a nVidia Geforce 8400M GS Graphics card.

    So it appears dedicated cards can also be used on the GM965.
