I know from the research I done that the Nvidia GeForce 310m graphics card is NOT a real gaming card, that is fine as I am not a gamer.

I just would like to know what is the difference between the two same graphics cards but one has a 1gb version, while the other has a 512mb version?

What advantages will the 1gb version have over the 512mb version?

An extra 512MB of VRAM ;)

Honestly, though, I doubt that any of the tasks you'd be likely to use the card for would benefit from the extra VRAM. Any application that would benefit noticeably would likely be specialised enough that you wouldn't have to ask this question.

Typically, 1GB of VRAM tends to be useful when you're gaming at high resolution, but the 310M isn't capable of doing that decently anyway.

I see what your saying, but if it the extra from 512mb-1gb is basically for gaming or things of that sort then why did Nvidia even offer the 1gb as an option if its basically useless for the GeForce 310m?

Exactly. They slap on memory chips that cost maybe $1 more (or something), and up the price of the whole card by $10-50 (or something).

...and performance is the same. But this way they get more money out of you.

It depends on what machine they come in. However, all other things being equal, just go for the 512MB version.

    Here are the two laptops:

    Asus - Laptop / Intel® Core™ i5 Processor / 14" Display / 4GB Memory / 640GB Hard Drive - Dark Bamboo - U43JC-BBA7

    Toshiba - Satellite Laptop / Intel® Core™ i5 Processor / 14" Display / 4GB Memory / 500GB Hard Drive - Slate - M645-S4050

-A lot of the specs on the Asus is wrong in a negative way as I confirmed with Best Buy online phone number, which they called who they deal with Asus and cofirmed a lot of info on there is wrong. I also called Asus myself and they confirmed. Such as the Asus actually has a 2mp webcam, it has upto 8 hours of battery life, It does have the I5-450m even though the processor speed they mention is of the I5-430m processor speed.

-Also, don't let the price play in this factor as the price is closer than you think. Best Buy is giving me a $50 gift card for a mistake they made and also the Toshiba comes with a huge bulky 12cell battery and if I went with the Toshiba, I would have to purchase the 6 cell for $129.99.

Some times some of the smaller amount of ram cards have higher quality chips meaning they are better.
