Can anyone post a picture of a widescreen 17" notebook display compared to a 17" letterbox CRT? I currently have a Dell 17" letterbox CRT and I'm wondering if a 17" notebook's screen would be immersive enough for me for gaming. So, yeah, can anyone post picture of a widescreen 17" notebook compared to a standard 17" letterbox CRT? Thanks :)!

A 17" CRT has a viewable screen from 15"-16", so a 17" widescreen LCD will be as big if not bigger.

I know what you are asking but it really can't be done in a useful way insofar as you will be viewing thru the constraints of the monitor you are using. also because you are viewing thru that monitor to view the picture in wide screen to evaluate you would have to reduce. Also the resolution is more important for how much real estate you see on the screen, more so than the actual size of monitor. As Lithus said a 17 Wide screen will be closer to a 15-16 inch than 17 in height, not in what you see (that is resolution nothing to do with physical size) on the vertical, but a little more on the horizontal. You should be able to force your CRT to display a wide screen resolution 1280X800 and evaluate better than anything anyone can post.

Na, actually, I'm saying that a 17" CRT has a literal viewable screen of 15-16 inches.

CRTs and LCDs are measured differently. With CRTs, the frame around the screen is measured in the size, so a 17" CRT measurement includes the inch or so of plastic bordering the actual glass screen. With LCDs, they only measure the viewable screen size. That's why on CRT boxes, you'll see something like "17" monitor, 15" viewable".

Yea, those sneaky bast*rds! 1st it was the HDD's now the monitors, where does it end? I hope CPU is really a 1.6Ghz like they said when I bought it!
But I think if he can display a wide screen resolution on his current CRT will be better to judge than a picture at no specified resolution. :D
