Checking my directx diagnostic for display states that my DAC type is integrated RAMDAC with an Approx. Mem. Total as 4069 MB. This shouldn't be right because I am running an Nvida 285m that in it's System display states I have a dedicated memory of 1024 MB GDDR3.
Why aren't these in agreement. I am having trouble playing games that I use to be able to and I can't play Dead Island at all. Is this the root of the problem?
Thanks

I believe what DirectX diagnostics (dxdiag) displays is the shared memory, and not the dedicated GPU onboard memory.

I'm not convinced that is the case, however if I assume it is I still have the problem that my DAC type should be internal, not integrated. Right?

my ATI 3650m says 2.3GB while dedicated is only 1GB. it include the turbo memory thingy, not sure what its called. the extra is the shared memory with RAM or HDD

Reductions in performance are caused by large numbers of running programs giving you less ram, faulty power supplies or your CPU/GPU getting to hot.

I like the power supply idea. I have 8 GB ram and I'm OCD about closing windows/programs and never have anything running during games. I will end processes like onenote and adobe etc. CPU/GPC getting too hot as I have a sager and clean out the fans about once every 2 months and never notice the heat marks over the copper casing I am less likely to believe is the problem. My power supply does get mighty hot. It even caught on fire once. I have a new power supply and it still gets very hot, too hot to handle. What should I do next?
Directx and Nvida disagree
