I guess I'm behind the times because I see people using the word discrete one second and dedicated the next. Now I know the difference between a Integrated laptop GPU and a Dedicated one but I keep hearing the word discrete.

    - What is a Discrete GPU such as the Vostro 1400's 8400M GS?

    - How is it different from Dedicated?

    - Does it share RAM with the rest of the system?

    - Is it slower than a Dedicated GPU?

I tried searching the forums but I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for so I hope someone can point me in the right direction or has an answer for me.

Discrete = Dedicated. Just as notebook = laptop.
