hi all, im not sure if this is in right thread but its to do with Battlefield 3. I only get this message when i play that game online. on single player its fine. 30 secs into a online game and it does it and crashes the game. i have tried Battlefield bad company 2 and its fine online.

    Please note i have switchable graphics in this laptop. a Intel 3000HD on a I7 2630QM and a Radeon 6490M 1GB GDDR5. HP Notebook.

I have tried reinstalling the HP drivers but they dont work. it comes up with "Failed to load detection driver" during the AMD installer when it detects your card. EVERY time, i have tried in safe mode, tried uninstalling them and using driver sweeper, doesn't work. still comes up with same error. i have installed the drivers through the device manager by directing it to the folder with the drivers. and it works fine, no error in game, however this means i can no longer use my switchable graphics for power saving, and after 2 restarts the 6490M disappears completely from the device manager and it gets stuck using the Intel 3000 HD until i do a system restore to before the whole thing, so back to the 30 second in game crashing. please help me with this, i have tried reinstalling the Microsoft C++2010 distributable.

At the same time as the error in event viewer there is also this. A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (4).

so i have no idea what to do.

Use Sapphire Trixx or something similar to disable ULPS. AMD's power management causes the display driver stack to crash... A LOT. Once I disabled it, games were 100% stable... minus, of course, the bugs in the game itself.

Also, you might want to use DriverSweeper to get rid of all that driver mess from restoring/installing/installing in safe mode. It makes a big mess. Uninstall all AMD software from the Control Panel, then run DriverSweeper and clean out all AMD software. Then reboot and reinstall the AMD/Intel driver package from HP. Use Trixx to disable ULPS.

isn't ULPS related to crossfire configuration only?

hey, the only problem is i do use driver sweeper in safe mode, then reboot into safemode after restarting but every single AMD driver and even the ones from the HP website for my model all encounter the same error during the installation, when it comes to detecting the graphics card an error pops up saying "failed to load detection driver". and it does this constantly no matter what mode or setting i try to run them in. this is the problem :( and i cant figure out why it cant load the detection drivers, even when the graphics card is appearing in the device manager.

I'm guessing not. My Vostro was just the HD6630m and the HD3000... with ULPS enabled my games crashed. With it disabled my games were 100% stable.

IDK what the issue is then... have you considered just wiping it all and reinstalling Windows?

yeah i can see that being the only way to return windows to a stable operation is to use the Hp recovery partition to put it all back to factory defaults, although i was hoping i wouldn't have to lol. but clearly windows isnt liking the proper drivers and when it finally does it crashes the games, wierd that it only does it on battlefield 3 online though. oh well. format it is. thank's anyway.
