Do demos represent final performance on your Laptop?

The CoD4 demos runs really well on pretty much high, with some mediums and V-Sync on, but there's odd stuttering I guess. My FPS is usually 35-45 but it's hard to explain the effect, it's basically stuttering, but not too bad.

The same goes for the Crysis demo and only in some areas. I have the full game of The Witcher and I don't seem to notice this, and that's running on medium-high.

Just curious if there's a performance gap, maybe if patches were released for those games?

I have Guild Wars maxxed and it's not there as well.

Oh btw, I'm using 169.04, since everybody says it is one of the best, if not the best.

Oh also, does Vista prevent certain games from installing, I tried installing WoW and EQ2 but neither will install. WoW shows an error at the very end, and the EQ2 startup launcher says some logo can't be displayed and shuts down.

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm really paranoid especially after paying over $1,000 - lol.

No demo doesn't always represent the final build...depending on when the demo is released of course :)

lol @ the comment for sly...

How do I make sure it's on compatinilaty mode?

And is there anything that can account for this stuttering I guess it is..?

The Crysis demo does say Pre-Beta so that could do something, as for CoD4, my frames are fine it's just hard to explain what i'm seeing.

crysis hasnt changed much from the demo preformance wise so if u can run it well there u should be able to do the same with the retail version

it's relatively accurate in terms of how a game will run. demos aren't released until after or near gold build stage. but even then the 'final game' isn't representative w/ frequent patches to address various technical and compatibility issues after the game is released.

the cod 4 demo ran around 30fps but i just got the game tonight and it runs at 60+fps. i get a better fps when i play multiplayer. i wouldnt say demos represent your performance.

Hey Dman7 I think I have that odd stuttering too, I have the full game on XP with the latest patch. So they didn't fix the stuttering in the patches. My FPS are almost the same as you (30-45fps). The stuttering is always there even when the FPS show 45.
    My specs are:

    Zepto 6224
    C2D 2.2GHZ T7500
    2GB Ram
    8600GT DDR2

I can play other games fine like Stranglehold and Unreal Tournament 3 Demo. I am currently using the 169.12 drivers but I have used other drivers too.

I've got the Witcher demo but that's a special case since it was released after the retail version. I've heard people say it's got features from the latest patch but isn't quite as optimised compared to the final version.

    Yes and no.

Usually demo's only include maps or parts of the games that are the least demanding. Like UT3 for example - the maps the demo has runs amazing - but in the full game, the other maps are very very demanding and run far less better.

You also gotta remember, drivers better optimized for the game could come out. The final game may be more optimized or polished. Among other things..

I'd use a demo more of a guide line then anything - if you got head room, then you should be ok.
