These video editing apps: handbrake, formatfactory, virtualdub, avidemux, avisynth

    Is a P8700 with Intel 4500 enough?

Or would a P8700 with Nvidia 9300 deliver better performance?

I'm pretty sure Handbrake, virtualdub, and avisynth are all CPU dependent. I am not aware of their dependence on the GPU.

cool bro, nice to see you started a thread with a very important question for my lappy purchase. i am pretty much sure P8600/P8700 will be a good processor with 3-4 GB RAM for video encoding and saving battery life to my need, and with upcoming win7, it should do even better. the big question is, however, whether integrated CPU should be sufficient or i should go for discrete graphics.

I don't think it would make any difference between the 9300 and 4500. As far as I know, Adobe premier is one of the only video editing programs that uses the GPU.

Are we talking Adobe Premiere Elements or Pro? I saw the specs for Elements and saw no gfx requirement, just DX9, and DX10 compatible sound & display drivers.

Premier (pro) only uses the GPU for a limited range of special effect filters; its not going to make a difference for render time and actual usage performance.
