With having a new laptop, and the recent steam sale, I now have a lot of games which I have started, and maybe played for 1-2 hours. I really don't think I will have time to finish all of them before something more interesting comes along.![]()
I also try to avoid games which I know are stupidly long. I really don't know how people find time to finish games like Mass Effect and the Elder Scrolls games etc...![]()
Just wanted to get the community opinion...
Do you finish every game you play?
-
Depends on the game.
I finished the entire GTA collection that's been released thus far and Saints Row 3 but could never finish an Elder Scrolls game. -
More often than not, no. Looking at what I've played in recent years:
YES: Dragon Age 1, Mass Effect 1-3, and Starcraft II.
NO: Borderlands, Dragon Age 2, Kingdoms of Amalur, Command and Conquer 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Arkham Asylum, Gears of War, etc... -
I finish most of them, not all though, some games i might not find a interesting as i thought or something else comes up and i just move along.
-
I wish I had more time to finish the more involved games. But as it is, I only finished Crysis & Warhead, COD series (All, they're just so fun and funny to play), Borderlands and MOH series (all). Some games aren't "finishable" like Madden and FIFA. Crusys 2, Dragon age, Far Cry 2, RTS games, Mass effect, Fear, etc... nope. Life gets in the way and there's no time to really get into them the way I'd like.
It's been almost 2 years since I sat down and played games for more than 30 mins on a weekend day. I bought games I have not even installed yet. -
I probably finish about half, thinking about it. Not all games hold my interest or there's some other issue (lost save files, game broke, game was stolen and I never bought it again, etc.).
-
I rarely finish games, but I do play the hell out of the Elder Scrolls series.
I too have too many games to play them all. if I don't like the feel of the controls, I will tank the game. It could have the best graphics in the world, but if the control and feel isn't there, I won't play it. -
I'm same as 2.0™. I have a vast library of games, but few that I can ever play let alone finish. I'd LOVE to be able to finish many games, but my free time comes in 20-30 minute increments and quite hard to get too involved in a game. That's why I play BF3 so much. Play a round or two if I'm lucky and get off for a while.
-
Same story, life gets in the way after all, I too cannot finish long games, I finish usually 10 hour first persons like cod or bf3 crysis crysis 2, the longest I played a game was neverwinter2, so want to finish witcher 2 but no time
same goes with skyrim, spent 30 hours but I am not even half way to end
still I am happy as a kid when I first install a game, that's enough I guess

This is how its been for me for the last few years atleast.

Baka has a lot of games, about 60% unplayed, the rest except a few are unfinished. Baka only finishes what interests Baka greatly ._.
-
When it's summer/winter vacation I play about more than 25 hours a week, so I get to finish most of the games that I buy. But when it's school days I rarely play at all.

I really enjoy the games that are almost impossible to finish. For example, I played Oblivion for years and barely touched the main quest, but I had a lot of fun playing different kinds of characters and exploring the world. I've also played singleplayer Civ 5 campaigns against the A.I. on a huge map, marathon pace, that went on for more than a year and I never completely wiped out the A.I. civs. As for Skyrim, there are these radiant quests that spawn based on which areas you haven't explored yet, etc., and I think they can go on forever, so it is impossible to actually "finish" the game.
-
Cant finish anything that is too good or too bad. Good game I tend to try perfect everything(sometimes with spoilers) but fail miserably and lose hope (usually struck at 95% completion just missing the end part). Bad game I throw away in 10 minutes.
Mediocre game + fast pace(so not fall sleep) + short = completion.
Human aging is definitely bad for gaming. -
I don't see the point in finishing a game if you are not enjoying it. If I like it a lot, I may play it a 2nd time, but if I don't like it, I drop it like 3rd period french class.
-
I partially blame steam and it's sales & discounts! -
*panhandles for unused abandoned game keys*
I finish most the of the games I buy
Except borderlands episode 2 cause 1 play through was enough and BF3 campaign cause it sucked ballz -
Beat
Civ5, kinda, logged about 120 hours
Borderlands, not the DLC
Diablo 3
Uncharted 2,3 great games
Batman Arkaham
Not beat
Mass Effect: 2,3 couldn't get past the drama
Dragon Age: I don't know it just got boring
Shogun 2: Civ5 takes all my thinking time. Will beat soon
Witcher 2: unable to run with my current PC, standing by. -

I don't know why, I kept thinking it was going to get better and then the next thing I knew I'd played it for 40 hours and finished the game. The dialogue was just so horrible in that game and the enemy A.I. and level design was ridiculous. The story didn't make any sense at all and a lot of the NPC models were recycled.
Other than that one exception, if I start to get bored with a game I usually stop playing immediately. -
I rarely ever finish any games, but that's mostly because I rarely even play anything singleplayer. The only two games I've ever finished are Mirror's Edge and Portal.
-
I have a problem. Even if I'm really enjoying a game I can never bring myself to complete it entirely. Especially if it's enjoyable, I find myself not wanting it to end... and so it won't because I never finish it. I've still never finished most of the classic JRPGs.
-
I don't finish games too often. Most aren't good enough to keep my attention.
It takes a deep story to keep me glued to a game - usually one that taps into my emotion like Chrono Trigger or FF3. -
Yes, I always make the effort to finish the games, although ghost recon future soldier on the last level was horrible fps < 30 & nightmare to end but it ended. Funnily enough all other levels were fine > 30 fps.

I finish roughly about half of the games I start.
-
If you ask me that question in two years, i'd say my answer will have changed. -
I thought I finish only few games, but come to think of it, I finished quite a lot of games. I finished every one of recent Bethesda's Gamebryo games (Morrowind, Fallout 3, etc) and their expansions (except Oblivion's expansions, didn't like those for some reason). I finished all of the recent Bioware games such as the entire ME series and Dragon Age 1+2, several times. And I even finished a lot of sandbox strategy games like Civ 5 and Sins of a Solar Empire.
I only never finish pure action based games, like GTA or FPSs, can't stand those, they bore me out of my skull after half an hour. I think I need to see stats increase to finish games
But still, I didn't finish even a third of what I have in my steam library.. -
Can't vote in this. So far I haven't finished many of my bought games but I intend to - eventually!
My problem is Steam sales. I have a huge backlog and when I try to get through a game a new one goes on sale and grabs my attention... -
Just talking about the broad spectrum of games on all platforms I've only finished a handful of games, start to finish.
The first games I finished were Pokemon Red and Blue when they first came out for the gameboy. After that the next game I finished was Portal (right when steam released it for free) and then MW3 for the xbox, which is funny because I don't play FPS on consoles and I wasn't an MW3 fan.
The games I really wanna finish, though, are HL/HL2 and Starcraft 2. When my birthday comes up in october, I'm gonna ask for the HL/HL2 package so I can finally finish it. When I can get myself up to it, I'll finish SC2.
For as long as I played WoW, if it even remotely had an end to it, I would've considered it a game I've finished. haha. -
I try... but with the amount of good games getting released and the amount of time I've got ratio isn't too good ahaha, time has changed
-
I finish almost everything I start. The games I enjoy I finish quickly (i.e. Arkham City, Mass Effect Series, Assassins Creed Series). other games take longer (sometimes MUCH longer) like Skyrim, still haven't beat the main storyline but have over 60 hours invested in it. Some games I go slower because they don't drag me in as much as others. very few do I start and never finish. I do have many many games I haven't started though, due to steams excellent sales.
-
350+ hours of Skyrim... started Dawnguard... must... click... "Yes, I always finish everything"... x_X
-
It isn't that good either lol -
I finish most of the games which I play but there are some games that I don't end because they are very hard or dont hold my attention.
-
Games that have variance in gameplay and may different locations I usually finish (Skyrim, Stalker, DeusX, Witcher series, Fallout 3, Effect, Dragon Age)
Games that have repetitive action and in which you constantly go from point A-B-C and back I'll usually get bored and will quit (Far Cry II, GTA series, Assassin's Creed). I HATE to have to return to a location I've been in before unless a) something has materially changed in the environment e.g. it got blowed up or b) there is some short, pivotal moment in the storyline. -
I generally finish the games I start. I rarely buy at the time of release, often waiting til the Game of the Year Edition with all the DLCs is available. By that point the game has been thoroughly vetted, so I know if it lives up to the hype. Of the games I've played in the last year or so - Fallout: New Vegas, Borderlands, Kingdoms of Amalaur, Witcher I, STALKER, Metro 2033, Dragon Age: Origins - I only gave up on STALKER. It was really repetitive and I saved in a bad point that I couldn't get beyond. The thought of starting over was just appalling, so I gave up. This saddened me because I'm a big fan of the Sturgatsky brother's works upon which the game is based. Kingdoms of Amaluar was fun at first, then it become a repetitive slog with a character so much more powerful than anything I faced. I stuck it out through only because I enjoyed exploring the world itself.
-
I've finished 27 of the 92 games I've installed, from my 231 game Steam and Origin library.
Not terrible.... -
-
Unfortunately I fall into the "games bought" vs "Games Finished" basis as well. I try to pick a game and finish it before going on to the next one. I'm usually successful with this, however I tend to buy more games then I finish. So while I finish 1 game my queue keeps growing steadily. I think I'm at a point that if I never bought 1 other game I still couldn't finish all the ones I have...and yet I still keep buying them
I also, tend to gravitate towards games that take a long time to complete which doesn't help. Over 100+ hours in Fallout 3, close to that in Fallout New Vegas, Of course I have at least as many in Skyrim, as well. And I'd say the bulk of games I do finish are roughly 20-40 hours in length.
So I guess if I bought a lot of games I could finish in a few hours I'd be doing better off...sigh. -
This doesn't bode well for me, because I just started fallout 3 last night! -
I have had that happen on numerous occasions where a bad save game forced me to quit too. Max Payne 3 of most recent. I would play for a while, exit, come back, and my save games were nowhere to be found. Reading Steam forums it seems this is a common occurrence. I tried different suggestions, none of which worked.
Do you always finish games?
