For me:
PC>PS3>$hitbox 360>Wii
PS3 IMO is way better than a 360.Better build quality, runs quiet, Blu Ray, and not mention online is free.
Though I of course would choose a PC over console anyday.
My Sony VAIO is even more rugged than my desktop, and when my friend brought over his PS3 for a week, I could not look at a 360 ever again. The damn thing was sooo quiet, I rememeber I could here the 360 from UPSTAIRS.I also like the PS3 games better.Let me tell you, Killzone 2 isn't for sissies.Silly rabbit, Halo is for Kids! lol

Signal2Noise - GTFO fanboy. He stated facts. Something what an average Xbox360 fan can't accept as it seems.
Here are some more juicy facts - PS3 has more higher rated exclusives and sells more consoles in year. -
Food for thought. Just one of hundreds of examples. -
Did you even bother to check out the "facts" over there? Great idea to lineup 2005-2009 games on X360 and compare them with 2007 PS3 games and whatnot.
Simple price comparison from Gizmodo, posted yesterday. PS3 Slim Vs. Xbox 360 Elite Hardware: Pretty Cut and Dry?.
Woops, I wonder why did the article you gave forgot to mention Xbox360 54.2 percent failure rate?
Nevermind, your site claims RRoD has been fixed. Seriously do you actually believe what is written on that article?
Oh my and you accidentally posted the year old article, am I right? Here is the updated comparison from the site you gave - Playstation 3 vs. XBOX 360 – Two Years Later - which is still more than half a year old.
Meaning there is no information about the price drop, Slim model, new games and other stuff. Plus there are still quite alot of fanboy BS on this article.
Such as " Furthermore, Playstation 3 titles tend to ship with bugs that get patched at a later time."
And : " whether you like it or not, a lot of people can’t live without achievements. Sony has added these features to their interface, while maintaining free online access. It’s not as good as it sounds however; chatting with friends is still clunky as hell, and it’s still difficult to invite them to games (there is still no auto invite function)." - which is a lie, the invite has been there since the beginning and sorry, people can't live without Achievements?
There are fanboy lines after every three-to-five lines of comparison. A really trustworthy source. I wouldn't be surprised if you were the one to write it Signal2Noise. -
I'm not a fanboy, as I said I perfer PC anyway. -
Nice job of hijacking the thread Signal, Panzer and Akuma...
I don't seem to recall the OP wanting any facts in the 'PS3 vs 360' department...it's such a tired, tired, tired argument anyway...
Who cares what's 'best'? It's what works for you...
I guess Panzer, at least, added the unsubstantiated fact that a laptop (PC) operates more quietly than a 360...though I'm curious when you bought your 360... -
Thanks for the lulz, Panzer, and especially you Akuma.
Sorry for the hijacking and please, by all means, continue the real discussion. Yes, PC is better than XBox.
Peace.

I prefer a 360 over the PC when it comes to gaming. More selection of games, no need to constantly upgrade, and get to play on a nice HDTV.
-
I like to play on a HDTV as well. Only I like better graphics.
HDTV
I bought a 360 ($40 it had RRoD and I fixed it). I have used it for maybe 2 days before I got sick of it. I haven't turned it on since. The graphics are awful, the gameplay is clunky with a controller. After two days I saw that "dumbed down for consoles" is not just a saying, it is the reality of them. So now I am selling the FAILBox, I will never use it anyway.
Fixing a FAILBox1
Fixing a FAILBox2
Fixing a FAILBox3
I have a Wii as well that I do use, Zelda and Super Mario Galaxy are pretty good, but the Wii shows it is designed for the casual gamer. Nothing wrong with that either, even my wife uses the Wii and she hates video games.
I will sell the FAILBox and buy a PS3, in the end PS3 will likely come out on top of the consoles anyway Sony has done so before and they should do it again. Besides I bought a PS2 just for Shadow of Colossus, so buying a PS3 for Shadow of Colossus 2 is highly likely. I also like the God of War series so that is another reason. The high end PC and a PS3 combo is probably the ultimate combo. FAILBox some here say may have more games, but a whole bunch of crap is still just a pile of crap. I am hard pressed to find anything I even want to play on it. I usually just say I will wait for the superior PC version, the best games get ported to PC with better graphics and other improvements, so owning a FAILBox and a high end PC is kind of pointless. -
If I was forced to choose between PC and Xbox 360 (or any console) I'd choose PC hands down.
Game choices - Sure Xbox 360 is a designed mainly for gaming, but this doesn't mean that it has all the good games. Try to look at the history of the PC and there's thousands upon thousands of games to choose from. Even older titles still work and are still a good play (i.e. Warcraft 3, Age of Empires 2, Aliens vs Predator 1 & 2, NoLF, etc). Plus more complex games can't be played on a console. Ever see a complex flight simulator on a console, or a vast RTS game like Sins of a Solar Empire? No.
Multitasking - You can do more than just games with a PC. Even if you bought the PC strictly for gaming, you can still use the PC for productive things. Not to mention internet browsing, forum spamming (ahem), etc. Web browsers on consoles suck, and just aren't set up to use a keyboard for typing.
Multimedia - While I admit I love my Xbox 360 for streaming media, which is about its only purpose, I couldn't do it without my PC to house the media.
Hardware - Desktop PC's can be easily upgraded and rather inexpensively if you're smart about it. Sure a console may cost less in general, but it is basically a snapshot in time of hardware. PC's are constantly improving and evolving. Even though the X360 and PS3 are only a few years old, the games look antiquated compared to what you can play on a PC today.
Storage - The PS3 and Xbox 360 have minuscule hard drive capacities compared to any other PC out there today.
Bottom line - you can't really compare a PC and a game console. The PC is a multi-capable machine that is good at lots of things, granted it costs more. The consoles are good at one or two things, and that's it, but then again, cost less.
Consoles for me, are great for family and friend gaming together, and for the X360, the multimedia capabilities make it an inexpensive MMC extender.
I hate consoles really. They've really destroyed the quality of games IMHO. They set the standards for what kinds of games should be released, and usually they are substandard to what we used to get for PC exclusive titles. I'll take a $600 gaming desktop today over a $600 console any day. -
consoles are for casual gaming
PCs are for hardcore -
i am in the middle more for pc because of graphics and MOD's for games!! but then i do not have my friends that i have xbox live so its even for me. currently i do not have my xbox anymore. so as of now PC
-
I hate when people say PC gaming is expensive with all the upgrades.I would say 95% of people in my neighborhood has a computer. All these people have to do throwdown is $100-$200 and drop a 4850 or 9800 GT in their desktop and presto you have a computer that can play everything a console can and more.
-
with the increasing number of lazy console ports to the PC, i'd have to go with xbox 360

It is a shame that the PC has much more powerful hardware to offer when the consoles are getting more and more support. The PC is not getting more relegated to less exclusives and port console ports. We may still get the best looking version, but its still a console game in the end. I don't mind the PC having both console games and PC exclusive games so we have the best of both worlds, but not for all games to be console ports.
We may be the master race and the consoles a bunch of peasants, but the peasants are in greater numbers and thus winning.
PC gaming does seem to be in a bit of a rough patch right now, I hope with DX11 and Windows 7, things can look up more. Vista did not really help PC gaming. Microsoft also needs to stop hurting PC gaming, bring Fable 2, GTA4 DLC and Gears of War 2 to the PC, come on! -

I'm telling you guys, all you have to do is drop a 4850 or 9800 GT into your plain old Dell desktop then presto it becomes a gaming computer.Constant upgrading is common misconception.A single 4850/9800 is more than enough to play the latest games at highest settings.Want to play Crysis?Just drop another 4850 or 9800 in Crossfire/SLI and presto! now you can play Crysis and future games.

@Panzer: Kudos for pointing that out. Of course, it is much sketchier territory with notebook video cards.
Being an avid console fan for over a decade, I can vouch for those in this camp. It is nice not having to worry about drivers, system specs, tweaking settings, or anything of that nature. When you buy a console game, you know its going to work (at least 99% of the time). The selection of games is also much larger (this does not necessarily mean better).
I still think the PC is better for all of reasons everyone has already stated. Too bad the selection of RPGs is so meager (I have my ps3 for that though).
To each his/her own.
@htwingnut: Fantastic reference. I am also part French. Oh yeah...the ps3 uses a laptop hdd.
@darkness: Sager + release model ps3 60gb (all the bell and whistles) = heaven -

Better for overall gaming experience...If its just pure gaming, not counting money or anything else, then no. To me the Console is FAR superior to a PC for gaming alone....now.
Lets talk about game prices...and the easy to get "free" games available on PC. Then again a PC cost more than a console most of the time, especially if you want to run the games on settings the console of the same Generation has on the TV.
Another point is PC is actually a multi task machine, while console just does 1 thing. Basically what I'm saying is, if I only used my PC for gaming I would rather sell it buy a ps3, get a lesser PC and do work on that and game on my ps3. Well this would the be the case if "free" games were available on the ps3 now wouldn't it.
I know it sounds confusing, or just plain dumb so Ill put it in points.
#1 If Money was NOT a factor, and I was going to vote on pure gaming experience alone. = Consoles.
#2 If money was a factor = PC for... reasons.
What do I game on mostly, Since I only play 1 game since like 2007 "FFXI" I just play that on my Xbox 360 instead of my laptop. Better to view it on my 32 inch LCD TV than on my 15 inch screen. -
apple314159, larger selection of games?lol, you're kidding right?I can play all but the oldest games still on my computer.I can still play games from 15+ years old. Thus increasing the longetivity of games. This means PC on average will last 3 times longer than any console game.Halo 3 or even Killzone 2 may be a classic, but once Sony and Microsoft come out with a new console you can say bye bye to those games. With PC, I can still play the classics from 1999 and still play games from 2009.
Also, only well known developers with multi-million dollar budgets get games on consoles. This means, PCs still get the great(but not well known) games from indie developers and developers starting up(Even EA had to start somewhere, and that started on PC).The only reason, infinty ward even has the money and popularity to go pro-console was because their Call of Duty games, which may I say started on the PC.There are other people who make great games besides EA FYI.
-
True. It occurred to me that the PC is infinitely backwards compatible (essentially), and that indie developers are making games all the time for PC. I should have specified: game developers (mainstream, not indie) have been focusing more on consoles recently and the PC has been put more on the back-burner. There are still great games being released, but the quantity of retail games being developed for the PC has diminished, while the quantity of retail games being developed for consoles has increased. But, like I said before, a larger selection (of new games) does not equate to a better selection.
While the PC holds, and will always hold, the crown for multitasking, consoles are making progress in that field. I wonder how much of a difference there will be between the two a decade or two from now. It was hard for me to justify to my friends (who are still die-hard console supporters) why I made the switch based on multitasking alone. -
I don't get the console has better game selection idea?? The Pc is so much more versatile, there are just huge numbers of game's(not just indie either) and if you are an RTS fan then there is no contest really!
As for alazar14 I don't understand what the hell you are going on about if money was a factor get a Pc?? Are you retarded?? And just plug your Pc into your Tv if you want to play it on a larger screen. It ain't hard.
I think the key is console's have their place, but for hardcore gamer's with a larger budget it's gotta be PC. -
-
I don't get these threads though, why ask a load of PC/laptop enthusiasts whether a PC/laptop is better than an Xbox 360.
What response do you expect? lol.
My vote is for lappytop! -
(And this is without a dB meter)...The 360 is definitely not quieter than my laptop running a graphics intensive game, but I can't tell that it's definitely louder either...I would actually say (if fan noise bothered me) that the laptop is more annoying because I sit a lot closer to it when gaming...I sit across the room from the 360...
I could run the laptop into the projector, and sit across the room, but it's still awkward because you have to interface with the keyboard...the 360 will start, stop and do everything except swap DVDs remotely from the controllers... -
I think the OP wanted more processing speeds and storage capacities and shader capability comparisons
My 360 has been used as much as my laptop since November 2008, and no problems (other than my son did something where the 360 locked out Force Unleashed...probably turned it off while the game was trying to save to the HDD, and the corrupted save game file prevented him from playing...had to do a wierd gamepad combo to remove the 'ghost' file of the corrupted save game)...meanwhile, on the laptop front, I've had my laptop open once every three months to clean my fans/heatsinks and replaced my 7950 GTX at $300 six months ago (I let Dell do it because I didn't want to buy a used part from eBay, and I wanted their warranty on the card replacement...bought peace of mind for another six months in addition to the card...) (Note: I purchased the laptop used in March 2008 and have no idea how the previous owners took care of it...my card failure may have been due to previous neglect/abuse...never buy a sports car from a 20-something year old...I guarantee you that it wasn't driven only on Sunday...never buy a gaming laptop off eBay...) -
I hate consoles... So yes i think the pc is better.......... *walks away*
-
Also, don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but downloadable content is usually free for the PC version of a game, but has to be purchased for the console version of the same game. (Why is that?)
-
Now to the topic:
+ Consoles: Basically consoles have two main advantages over PC's
-Pros: a) It is a dedicated gaming machine, so it is simple to use (no need for configurations, install updates, etc.) and you are guaranteed the game you pick will play on it any time (no need to worry on system requirements).
b) Multiplayer. That is a very strong point, but again it works only when you have some people around.
-Cons: a) Graphics look outdated after a couple of years from the console release when compared to the PC version.
b) Use of only controllers make some genres difficult to play (RTS's) or forces others to be slowed down (i.e. Unreal 3).
+ PC's:
Pros: a) Bigger game library.
b) Better graphics (and capacities in general).
c) Free mods and (most of the time) free DLC.
d) It is a productivity tool.
Cons: a) System requirements have to be checked for each game.
b) Tweaking. It is nice, but not all the times.
Also, pricewise there is no difference due that the more expensive PC/laptop is compensated by the natural lower prices in games, as well their faster price drop and/or good deals from digital content websites (Steam, direct2drive, etc.). -
ha~ we all love pc games it got better graphics, heavy mods (just look at Street fighter 4 on PC!) and push us to get better graphic cards every year
though I got my xbox360 (ntsc-J) for 1 main reason: RPGs!
of course let's not forget the great experience of xbox live -
Where I live the game price is even stronger in favour of PCs... most PC games are produced locally and cost around USD40-50. Console games cost around USD120-150 (yeah, that's right), because they are all imported.
-
I built a custom machine, had i7920 with gtx295. Had constant problems with freezing up, changed parts messed with it for 2 months. Ended up selling it buying an asus g50vt-x5. I barely play pc games anymore, people i did play with either dont game anymore or just play on 360. Only games i plan to play still on my notebook are games from blizzard and valve they generally dont require high end hardware. Call of duty series is primary focus on 360, pc version of modern warefare 2 is going to be 60 dollars also. PC games going to charged the same amount as console games, so no benefit there. Id software said 360 is primary focus for Rage. Even when bioshock came out you could make it run at 60fps. It's less and less focus on pc as far as focus and exclusivity. Even the system killer crysis is being made multiplatform probably will run and look the same as its pc counterpart.
-
PC > Consoles
The only reason console games generally look just as well if not better than their PC counterparts even though they're years behind is because the games are all coded for the specific hardware, and not for a wider public like the PC. -
Well i had a 360 it broke 3 times and on the 3rd time microsoft wouldn't pay for it to be fixed, so i took it in the woods and smashed it with some friends, it made for a good laugh. Just telling you the story so you know that i am biased and i hate xbox 360 that being said a laptop is better for gaming.
I enjoy laptop gaming better because
the games are cheaper
you can download user created mods and skins for most games,
you can use fraps or other programs to create videos,
you can tweak display settings to your liking,
you have the choice of keyboard + mouse or controller whether it be 360 or ps3 controller
Another thing i enjoy is the fact i can close the lid and carry the laptop with me anywhere (friends house, bathroom, etc) and still be able to play whatever game i want.
now for the 360 flaws
its failure rate is threw the roof
sounds like a jet engine when it is on
doesn't have built it wireless (not sure if the new models do)
pay for online service
has an annoying and crowded interface
so i would have to go with the laptop for gaming. -

I don't see how previous post's can say that console game's look better than Pc game's just because they have been optimized for the hardware, if you optimize something for rubbish hardware it will still look rubbish! And as for the coming multiplatform Crysis looking better than thwe Pc version, well just lol! You obviously haven't played Crysis or Warhead maxed out on 1920x1200.
-
-
I'm platform agnostic. I go where the games are. I feel sorry for you guys who feel you're "too good" or just too much of a fanboy to play console games.
-
-
If you really want to play it that was, the PC was never originally intended to be "about the true gamer". It was originally intended to be a business and productivity enhancer.
Tell me, what was your first "gaming" PC? -
-
Edit: I postulate that it's because the keyboard and mouse is so userfriendly, retarded monkeys like it more than gamepads - it's hard to get good with thumbsticks. Have any of you ever tried to fly an RC helicopter?
Do you guys think the pc is better than xbox 360?
