PCSX2 (requires PS2 bios) - Is the ONLY one and does work with Vista though the multicore processor MGU is not working as expected.

The graphics are still corrupt in a lot of parts, and X64 Vista Ultimate has issue

I am running a Quad Core QX6750 @ 3.2 with 4GB 950mhz RAM at 4-4-4-12 and still lags very badly, so much so that it is unplayable.

I've used PCSX2 and it's largely depending on two factors. The PC processing power & the type of game you're playing (2D/3D intensive). The compatible games are pretty playable from my experience. If the program hangs/crashes , it could be one of the settings gone haywire. You can refer to this guide on how to tweak it. I may actually get a real PS2/PS3 to play the games instead.

Also, it's an emulator, so don't expect too much out of it. Now if we could obtain a supercomputer to run PCSX2.....

Edit - The guide uses 0.92 as an example. The latest version is 0.94 from PCSX2 website and it should be largely the same.

Since a PS2 is only $129 and refurbed for $99, I'd say go for the actual console. I bought one just to play a couple games. It was worth its weight in gold when nieces / nephews came over for Dance Dance Revolution. I still have God of War in its shrink wrap and plan on getting to that one day.

Too bad XBOX wasn't shrunk down. That thing is a behemoth.

I messed around with psxe for a little bit in Vista and it worked fine besides keeping my cpu very busy which is why I didn't play it for long. I ran an iso of FF7 for about 30mins and it seemed to play fine here is a link to their website which is totally legal. http://www.epsxe.com/download.php

My bad this is a ps1 emulator not ps2, not sure what I was thinking..I blame exams this week on my scatterbrain.

PS2 Emulator is NOT a good idea on the Laptop, the newer cpus will run it probably but most other cpus will have difficulty i suggest u wait some until more emulators develop, or at least wait until the Playstation Portable emulators reach the point of full speed emulation, then it would be more than fine to emulate ps2 games, besides ps2 games have not stopped selling i think, and downloading games from the net would be a ILLEGAL OFFENSE.

I'm using PCSX2 and some games do run with full speed, just check the companbility list.

    Tekken Tag Tournament
    Tekken 5
    Monster Hunter
    Disagea 2
    Shadow of Rome
    Burnout 2
    Dragon Ball Z : Tenkaichi 3

All these games run on my machine 40-60fps all the time, and I'm on Vista.
There are total like 200-300 games what are fully playable.

even if ps2 games stop selling, downloading them from the net would be an "ILLEGAL OFFENSE".

actually the latest version is 0.95 and it's capable of running games like god of war.. :) not without problems though!!...kratos and most of the enemies are invisible but the frame rate was pretty stable and the game was very playable overall...with the excption of not being able too see your enemies!!.. :D ..

    see for yourself:

here is another video of Shadow of the colossus(terrific game) running flawlessly on PCSX2 0.94:

these guys are making some great progress on this emulator, i believe that within 2 years or so we all will be able to play all ps2 games smoothly on our pc's... :) .

It's easier to buy the PS2 Slim than waste all your precious time tweaking PCSX2 settings...

It's just that emulators are great for an all in one portable game system (AKA: laptop). I've still got the NES, SNES, PS2, N64, and a bunch of other systems, and have emulators for them. It's just easier to bring around your laptop than a system/screen combo, even if it's one of Ben Heckendorn's crazy things.

other advantage that an emulator could have is graphics enhancement. Also since most laptops have a DVD drive no one would need to download ps2 games to play on the emulator. And I don´t feel bad when I download a game that is not selling anymore.
