i know it might seem like a stupid question, but i've read that many people who get used to using 3 fingers (left click, scroll/sensitity adjustment buttons, and right click) are much better off at games, usually FPS and RTS games. Right now i only use two fingers and it does seem like i lose a step to scroll/adjust sensitivity with my middle finger. so i may try to use 3, although a learning curve needed.

i was wondering what you guys use and what kind of mouse you use?

Whats the point of that. A mouse is ment for 2 fingers. Why do you need to have your hand constantly on the scroll wheel, i never use it. I use the keyboard to switch guns.

I use LEFT, RIGHT, and MIDDLE scroll wheel on my mouse when playing games. The middle wheel can be pressed in, and moved up/down. Great for switching weapons!

I actually use 4 of my fingers for pressing buttons. Pointer finger for left click, middle finger for middle click index finger for right click and pinky for ctrl button (yes on mouse, but i reassigned the button to ctrl)

I use three fingers and my thumb on a five-button mouse, that way I can bind spells and things to the two side buttons.

Thumb for the two buttons on the side, one finger on left button, one on right, and one on the scroll wheel. Nothing beats using a scroll wheel for weapon switching or scope zoom.
there other hand on the keyboard.

I use the typical two-finger setup. I take my index off the left-click when I need to scroll through weapons/inventory.

I use four for the buttons. Of course the fifth is pretty vital in moving the mouse. So.. 5?

I use two fingers. Middle finger moves over from right-click to scroll weapons and scope.

Two fingers here. Middle is used for the right button, wheel and forward button. Index is for the left button and back button.

The forward and back buttons are usually assigned some kind of task in games. Depends on the games though.

wow, this is like asking if you step off with your right or left foot when you start to walk. I will never be able to play games again because I will be thinking about it from now on. I think I use 2 fingers. index for the left and the middle controlled the wheel and right button. but I am not 100% sure.

man, now I am just confused

interesting, i play ut 2004 all the time. speed is key and milliseconds count. i just realized today that i could be faster with three fingers, but then you dont have as good a grip on the mouse, not worth it in my opinoin unless you know for sure you can move the mouse just as fast.

umm... I have been using the touch pad on my notebook... so I guess 2, I will probably get a wireless mouse pretty soon though. From what I hear Logitech makes the best, is that right?

yes, logitech, imo, makes the best peripherals for the money, regardless.

i own 3 logitech mice (mx518 is awesome for gaming, and 2 wireless), logitech z2300 speakers, logitech x-530 speakers, and logitech accessories for my xbox and remote control. they have all performed beyond my expectations for a price that would be the same for lesser products.
but yes, logitech mice are excellent.

I tend to use the scroll wheel if the game supports it. I usually move my fingers between a 3-finger position and a 2-finger position, more or less at random.

I use two. I just don't feel comfortable with three. If I have to use the scroll wheel (which is quite often), I just move the index finger over. That's how I like it. Though, I've used a few 3-button mice in my time, and I find them to be comfortable, though not feasible today. But back in the day when Windows 95 was new and a lot of business people used *nix variations, 3-button mice were quite common. That's why I like my 3-button mouse on my M90. :)

I am adept at using both 2 and 3 fingers on a 'three button' (2 button and scroll wheel[which can be clicked]) mice.
I switch my 'hand position' depending on the game/application.
    For example:
CS = 2 fingers (The scroll mouse doesn't really offer me an advantage.
GW = 3 fingers (esp. in PvP since camera angles can get messed up)

I'm pretty sure this is the case for most other gamers

Daidojih is correct. However, I tend to use 2 all the time, using my other fingers for the two buttons on each side of my mouse, or hitting a key that I have binded. The keyboard is a much untapped resource.

Hmm... I just caught myself browsing holding the mouse sideways, scrolling with my index finger and right clicking with my middle finger. I wonder if I've ever played games this way...

I definitely use three. I have a contoured logitech (MX something, I think) and it's just more comfortable since it's a larger mouse. Great for gaming, small mice are for the birds you have to have some heft. Thinking of upgrading to a laser though, the optical is beginning to get a bit goofy since I've been using it forever.
