I'm big on WWII games, I played MOHAA back when it first came and that game is probably what got me into online gaming and both COD, but seeing how I have steam and all and these two games have interest me lately... Since RO is about to have 50+ multiplayer modes sound pretty interesting. I have never played any of these two franchises so which one would you guys recommend if I had to only choose one?
BTW, I'm big on BF2 and yes I played 1942 and can you guys tell me the type of gameplay DoD and RO gives, like is it deathmatch only or capture the flag, etc...
~thanks

RO is a very interesting game. I had played the mod for it before it won the Unreal Tournament mod contest and became retail.
Its definitely not for everyone, you have to have strategy and teamwork. No crosshairs (only iron sights) and realistic aiming/shooting (gravity affects your shots)
Its definitely a WWII game for the enthusiasts with such games.
In fact, Red Orchestra was a runner-up for Best FPS of 2006:

Day of Defeat: Source is amazing. The main gameplay is a "territory control" kind of thing (like the Battlefield series, but on a smaller scale). Most levels are set up with each team on opposite sides of the map, and the main action occurs at the "Center point", and the objective is to capture all of the flags/territory. There's also the "Demolition" mode, where one side tries to plant bombs on key targets, and the other side tries to prevent/diffuse the bombs. The game is very fast-paced and action-oriented (but there's still quite a bit of team strategy); It's one of my favorite online games.
Red Orchestra on the other hand... wasn't my cup of tea, to say the least. Steam had a "free weekend" for the game where you could try it out, and I just couldn't get into it. In the brief time I tried it out, it seemed much more slow-paced and strategy-oriented. Although I'm not a fan of Strategy-oriented Shooters like Ghost Recon or Rainbow Six kind of games, but you may like that stuff. -
I LOVE RO. I would probably rank my favorite FPS as RO>COD>BF2>DoD. At first RO was very complicated/hard. I probably got killed 20 times from people that I couldn't even see (but that was just because I didn't know where to look). In games like COD, BF2, and DoD most of your kills come from short range. However in RO most of your kills come from long range. It really is a fun game if you start playing. Get familiar with the maps and you will start to develop some strategy, and then you will start to figure out where the enemy hides.
There are actually 10 new maps that were just released for RO. Plus we now have the ability to play on 64 player servers.
I have a free 10 day pass for RO. If you PM me your email I can send it to you so you can try it out.

I also have to agree with Tim.
RO is one of the best realistic fps. It is definitely the best WW2 FPS. If you ever played Operation Flashpoint, Armed Assault, Rainbow Six series, then RO is definitely for you.
On the other hand, if you like Counter Strike, Battlefield 2 and similar games, then DOD is your game.

I think RO is better but depends on what you like. On a basic level RO is far more realistic, and all the animations and models look far better then DOD, the levels are much bigger too. But DOD is just your typical WW2 shooter, run and gun. You won't survive for long trying to go Rambo in RO....

In RO even the ballistics are realistic. You can also look at it this way: RO is a simulation, DoD is an arcade.

Thanks for the info guys and Tim ill take you on your offer. It is a hard choice to make because both sounds really good to me. I like the realistic of RO and the action type of DoD... choices...

No problem AznImports602.
I also have one more free pass if anyone wants it.

I don't have any more free passes.

DoD:S is good and would be great if Valve would put a bit more attention towards the game like adding a few new maps and fixing up the machine guns and SMG's a bit, not they are a bit random and they just don't feel good.
They should add a tad more realism to it. -

yeah DoD and RO are pretty seriously different.
I've gotta say, i think DoD (especially the avalanche map) is more fun. -
I prefer CoD over DoD. CoD has a fun single player as well as multiplayer. DoD is just multiplayer and isn't as fun IMO.

DoD or Red Orchestra???
