anyone play this game currently? i have been playing red orchestra (the free trial runs out tomarrow) online and it's been fun. before i go and buy a ww2 game though, i was wondering how DoD source is? basically i just want to know what kind of online community it has and if a lot of people play it because there are TONS of people who play red orchestra these days.
if anyone can let me know that'd be great.

DoD sources is fun, but i havnt played it for over 6 months. reason being, it does get abit repitive and dull i think...or me be its just me
-
I have been playing DoD for 6 years now....its a lot of fun. Many people play it and the online community is strong. DoD is more fast paced than RO due to having an aiming reticle and smaller maps. There are no vehicles and you just run around shooting the enemy in a much more fast paced run and gun setting. Both games are a lot of fun, though RO seems to be more difficult.
-
RO is difficult for me because of the way your holding the gun and shootng - there is no crosshair and u pretty much just wave the gun around hoping that it'll hit someone.
how many players in a game is max for DoD?
anyone know where to find the cheapest copy of DoD Source? -
DoD source is pretty cheap on Steam i think

DoD: Source is one of my favorite PC games - I play all the time, and the online community is quite big - there's no shortage of people to play against, and there are a ton of really great custom maps.
The gameplay is pretty different from Red Orchestra. DoD is more "arcadey" - the maps are usually fairly compact and the gameplay is fast paced, with high kill/death counts in a match. The core gameplay is capture the flag - your team has to capture and simultaneously hold all of the flags on a map to win. There's usually a key "middle" flag that quickly becomes a major battleground. There are 5 different classes (Assault, Sniper, Machine Gunner, Rocket, Support), and they have to work together to capture (and defend) your team's flags.
I tried Red Orchestra and didn't like it at all - but it's a matter of preference. If you like realistic, sim-like tactical shooters, go with RO. If you like fun, fast-paced action shooters, then go with DoD: Source.
Edit: max number of players in DoD is 32. -
never played RO but am a dod player and love it. it doesnt feel as competitive nor is it as frustrating as CS since you constantly spawn, but I enjoy it that way.
my only qualm about thte game is that they removed many weapons from the original dod as well as the entire british side -

Current players DOD:S = 7,126 -
do you have to go through "steam" to play DOD? i really don't like steam, just from playng RO i've had it crash and freeze several times...
i hope you don't have to run steam to play DOD... can someone tell me? -
i think im gonna go for DoD instead of RO .. but can someone tell me if i have to run this "steam" stuff to play online DOD? i hate this steam thing
-
-
yes, you have to run steam to play DODS
-
DoD:Source or CoD2 ? which is better multiplayer?
-
the only issue i have with RO is the fact that whenever i load up steam from my desktop to play online, 9 out of 10 times steam will not respond or freeze. when playing steam games (i.e. dod) do you have to run the steam application first before running the game?
-
Yeah, DoD: Source is made by Valve, so you have to use Steam to run the game. Your crashing problem is weird though - I've never had any problems with Steam.
Also, DoD is much better than CoD2's multiplayer. -
when i start steam it will almost always start up and then freeze on the opening screen and not respond to anything until i end task... no one else has had this problem?? i want to get DoDsource but i dont want to buy it if i have to go through all these problems with steam.
