i was browsing through some cpu reviews and found in a particular article that having HT on dropped performance of L4D2 by 17.8% and this may be the case with other games

do u guys have any experience with gaming with HT on/off to know if this is true? Even in a recent interview with ubisoft the guy for SC conviction sed:

PCGH :Does your engine profit from SMT/Hyper threading or do you recommend turning it off for maximum performance?

Ubisoft:Unfortunately Hyper threading can sometime lead to a worst performance than without it so we don't recommend it.

Unless you're still gaming on a P4 with HT, or feel like watching a powerpoint presentation on an atom, then most of the i-series have enough power, that unless your a benchmark junky, you more than likely won't notice.

EDIT: And on the page referenced... you can clearly tell which game is optimized for multithreading.

hahahhaa, yep HT has come a long way, but suffice to say it took me several months to figure out what HT did for my P4, and several more to figure out that none of my games seemed to like a "virtual" core. I know for a fact BF2 refuses to work unless I have HT disabled in the BIOS.

Intel also changed the way HT works on their newer chips versus the P4, but i definitely know what you mean.
