Hi, I'm considering buying Lost planet from steam. I read somewhere that the game cannot run if there is no internet connection and refuses to launch in steam's offline mode. I also read here that the developers were working on an offline patch to make the single player part of the game able to work offline and without internet connection. That was back in 2007. Did it ever become available and did it work? Can you now play the single player offline? Thanks.

Not sure where you read that you had to have an internet connection...not true. As least not in the U.S....

Don't know if that (working offline) was due to the 'patch' you referenced or not...the current Steam version of Lost Planet is 1.004...

I can play Lost Planet (purchased from Steam) on both my m11x and m1710 with the wireless turned off...I click my Lost Planet shortcut...Steam starts to launch and then says an internet connection isn't present and asks me if I want to retry or start in offline mode...

I click offline...and the Steam window asks me if I want to play Lost Planet or go to its DX9 or DX10 launcher...and then it works fine...

And it worked from the moment that I bought the game from Steam in 2008...

Most Steam games work fine offline...the only one that I remember not working is Team Fortress 2 (just tried it again...I just had to finish the tutorial and then offline practice is available with all the classes)...even Left 4 Dead/2, which is heavily multiplayer focused, works fine in offline mode...if you don't mind the bots...
