Just got my hands on a Optimus laptop. After a fresh Win7 X64 install, I let Windows Update install whatever drivers it could find, and then installed NVidia's latest beta driver. I went to Intel's driver update website later and it tells me to install driver v15.31.17.64.5257 for the HD 4000 iGPU.
I remember reading it somewhere that the NV's driver software handles iGPU driver install as well and I should not touch what it installs. Is that true? Will I break anything by using Intel's recommend driver installer?
BTW, I can't find any "official" download for Intel HM76 chipset Win7 drivers, and the manufacturer of my notebook refuses to give any Win7 drivers. Is it safe to download the driver from the websites of other brands?
Both SM Bus Controller and USB Controller (appears to be the the USB 3.0 part) are listed as unknown devices in the Device Manager at the moment. Windows Update also failed to find Realtek's Ethernet driver for some reason.
Edit: SM Bus and Ethernet are fixed now. The USB Controller is the only remaining offender.

what laptop and what spec.
name and shame who wont supply windows 7 drivers. -
Oh really? Didn't know that about Optimus, i thought you had to install Intel separately from Optimus.
I will check on that now
Update: Nope. You have to install the Intel HD Graphics separately. Latest runnin here is the 331.40 Nvidia Beta and the 3304 Intel.

Thanks for the replies.
The machine comes from a Chinese brand called Hasee. It offers support for Win 8 and Linux only, no Win 7 allowed. As far as I know it doesn't ship globally so most of the people on this forum don't have to worry. 620 USD for something with i7-3630QM and GT 645M is a good deal though.
Just installed Intel's driver package. Works fine.
I took some risk and located a HM76 chipset driver from Dell. The SM Bus Controller is recognized now but this mysterious "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller" device still has a warning marker beside it. All the USB ports work, but I don't have any USB 3.0 device to test USB 3.0 support. What should I do now?
Does NVidia's Windows driver package handle Intel iGPU driver?
