When I check on their site, I the most current forceware download that is list is 84.63, which was an update put up in Jun of '06. It seems like all of their video cards have continued to be updated and the go 7 series has just been forgotten by them. Is there another place I can get more recent drivers for my Go7900GS?
Or can somebody link me to the most recent ForceWare update for the Go cards? I can't believe that it hasn't been updated in so long. There must be something else going on here, right? I must be missing something.

www.laptopvideo2go.com You might want to check there rather then nvidia's website.

Yeah. I like the 158 drivers for the mobile 7 series, you can get them from laptopvideo2go as mentioned above.

nVidia uses a unified driver architecture, so theoretically your card will be coded for for the foreseeable future.

Hi,
but even in the laptopvideo2go forums, they say that 84.25 and 84.69 (as provided by Dell) are the best drivers for the 7X00-series.
I am in doubt if I should try newer drivers from laptopvideo2go as these are probably not well optimized for our cards and not tested thoroughly. But I wonder what to do when a game like Bioshock demands the very newest driver, but I officially can only get some 1 year old drivers.
Dell offers the 94.22-version for the 7950GTX (see XPS drivers). It can also be installed on the 7900GS. Tried it, but didnt notice any improvement. I only got 2 BSODs in the last 2 weeks related to the display driver. So I rolled back to 84.69.
Does anyone know a real safe and very well tested recent driver for the 7900 GS (especially Dell Inspiron) which has all the features of the original Dell drivers?

Same here. I want new drivers for BioShock. I just read on NVidia's site that they don't distribute forceware updates for laptop GPUs. It's up the the notebook provider to supply those drivers. And the 84.64 driver is all Dell has as well.
Like the poster above, I want new drivers for BioShock. I also looked through several of those drivers profiles and didn't see Go7900 GS on any of the lists. Isn't there an easier way of searching by the videocard, rather than looking through all of them and hoping to see mine on the compatibility list.
I see the scan option, but it takes me to a completely different site that wants me to install a plug-in and I'm not sure if this is legit or just an ad on LaptopVideo2Go. -
Every single nvidia driver newer than the Dell one's are gauranteed to be compatible with your card. That's what a Unified Driver Architecture means. Just pick a new one for your operating system, get the modded INF, and you're set. If you want, in the laptop video to go forums you can see which drivers members recommend specifically for the 7900GS.
-
Oh. So if I want to I can just download the new drivers released for BioShock from nvidia and just get the INF file and I'll be set? Cool.

And Nvidia doesn't support mobile GPUs - the manufacturer/brand of your laptop does. However the drivers from Nvidia work fine with the mobile GPUs as long as you have the modified .INF file or you update the drivers manually via the Device Manager. All of this is explained in the Updating Graphics Card Drivers thread - there's a link to it in the General Index Sticky. -
Hi,
I know that the drivers from laptopvideo will work and I can use every XP32 driver from Nvidia for my card. But will the drivers from there also support all the mobile features of the card, such as powermizer, display shutdown on lid close, the different cooling system etc.?
Heard about several problems here, cards running hot etc.
If it was that easy only taking a driver from NVidia and modding the .inf, I guess Dell would release newer drivers much more frequently.
That's the point why I never tried these drivers until now. I don't want to play Bioshock, but the time will come, when I need newer drivers for some game and then I'm sure, the Dell drivers will still be 1yr+ old...

the 84.25 & 84.69 drivers are stable but definitely not performance drivers.
Whats the situation with the new Bioshock 160 series drivers? necessary? Just got Bioshock today, ill try running it with 94.20s drivers first i think. -
i still usee the 84.63 drivers of the official nvidia site, when i use drivers of Xtreme-g mobileforce some games run better, but some games do run twice as slow as normally (in example: Spring ( http://spring.clan-sy.com/))

163.44 drivers are pretty good all-around. My biggest gripe so far is that they removed the control panel HDR option, but Bioshock performance should be up, as well as performance in general.

Definitely get the newest drivers from laptopvideo2go if you want to play Bioshock. It fixed a slew of problems for me.
-
question what kind of stuff can a driver fix or improve and how much of a improvemnt can there be when up grading from the dell standard to the 163.44 drivers ?

An updated driver can fix power management-related issues, improve 3D rendering by changing the way the graphics card processes things, and fix compatibility issues with games. All of the changes made are detailed in the release notes that go with the driver. Usually they are a .txt file.

For me non of the newer 100+ drivers gives me any performance boost. They do however lower my 3D Mark 05 score by around 1500 points and besided lower my performance in Oblivion by 5-7fps.
For my go7800GTX I stick with Xstreme-g 91.47 drivers which gives me best performance of any driver. -
Does Nvidia still support their Go 7 Series GPU's?
