I just loaded Mass Effect onto my computer, but before I could actually play it, I had to download the patch that adds secuROM. I know alot of people hate DRM, but will it hamper performance?

It will probably increase load times, but your actual in-game frame rates shouldn't be affected.
Personally, I have no experience with it, as I go out of my way to avoid games that require crap DRM like that. -
It only affects your load time, if at all.
-
To be more precise, it will decrease your load time the 1st time you launch the game (and the 1st time you launch the game after you download the expansion), after that no more waiting time. I am sure you would have noticed the first time you launched the game it took more than a minute just to 'launch', it was because SecuRom was at work, but never afterward.
-
i have never noticed any change at all.
-
The 1st time you launch it or launch after downloading expansions will take more time than the usual.

Do remember that Mass Effect and some other EA games have to be de authorized before you uninstall them.
Here is a list of games and their respective de-authorization tools

' dead space and dragon age are on there??? Wow thank you for posting, that just helped me decide if I was going to buy them.

I believe that Dragon Age for Mac comes with Securom, and not for the PC.
Does SecuROM decrease performance?
