I have an HP dv9000t(description's on bottom) and whenever i play music on windows media player i get a quick stutter of sound when it switches over to full screen or when it switches over to BF2142(or any game for that matter). the specs that i have on this laptop should be more than enough to multi-task without problems. so i was wondering if anyone else experiences the same scenario as me.

ps. sometimes when I play battlefield 2 or 2142 i switch over to other applications like AIM or whatever and try to switch back. Though when that happens, most of the time it'll freeze and ill a portion of the monitor blacked out coz of the game. so i have to end the process and restart the game. I believe it has to do with my graphics card, but I dont know too much about that, so i appreciate the help in advance.

Switching in and out of fullscreen mode is always a bit tricky, and sometimes, it will cause a bit of stuttering for a moment. Not that much you can do about it. You could increase the buffer size for your media player (At least Winamp allows you to do that), or you could try updating all drivers. It's not exactly straightforward how the result turns out though.

And yes, some games just can't handle tabbing out. I can't remember how BF2 handled it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had problems with that. Again, not much you can do about it.

The root problem is that an awful lot of work has to be performed when switching in and out of fullscreen mode. That may take a while, depending on the gpu and other semi-random factors, and a lot of things can go wrong which may crash some games.

well I was wondering if anyone had the same notebook and tell me if they experience the same. I think this problem could be fixed but it require HP to change some hardware components. Or maybe someone knows of a program that can control the usage and such for videocards.

I have a 9000t with the same processor and amount of RAM as you have. I am running MCE though.

I haven't noticed anything like this happening, but I only use Media Player for watching videos. I've been playing Railroads and I seem to recall being able to tab in and out with no problems. Like Jalf said, it could be game dependent.

I'm at work now, so I can't test it out.

I'll try to see if I have the same problem (at least the Media Player part) and I will let you know how it turns out.

yea... it seems like its a hardware issue because your notebook runs with a smoother videocard and a faster processor. It seems like the cable or something inside the laptop is causing this. OR maybe its a syntax issue. I really want to resolve this problem! :(

I never said it would fix your problem, but before you judge, take some time to find out exactly what that update does. Windows XP does not come properly configured to run with a dual-core processor on the majority of new laptops; you just configured Windows properly by following that guide. It will help overall system performance, and if you ever run multithreaded programs, you'll be glad you did that update.
So, even if it did not fix the current problem at hand, it prevented future ones. ;)
