...the 8800M will be MXM-IV compatible? Im reconsidering my original desire (Toshiba X205) and instead looking at the Clevo M570RU or the D900C even. But the problem is, I really want DX10.
So I was considering buying a D900C with only ONE 7950 and then buying two 8800Ms when they come out in a few months. I just dont want to get ass-raped and find out they aren't compatible. I need this laptop by September.
Anyone have any answer other than "Wait and see!"?

    WOOT! BIG NEWS!
I just talked to a sales associate at PCMicroworks.com named Thomas. I told him I was interested in buying the D900C (Blackhawk, for them). Anyway, here's a few tidbits from the conversation:
    *****
8800M is already on the roadmap for the current D900C configuration and will be available for purchase by the end of the year. It WILL be compatible with the current motherboard.
    *****
The newest 1333Mhz FSB Core 2 Duos are NOT currently compatible (e.g. 6850), but they are looking at the possibility of a bios update. If not, they may be offering a MOBO upgrade by the middle of next year to support DDR-3, the Penryns, and the 8900M which will be out by then!

Lastly, I think Im going to buy from them. :)

I would still wait to see what the future brings. Remember, sales associates only care about one thing; scoring a sale. As far as I know this guy could just be lying to you in order to score a purchase. I wouldnt jump the gun just yet.

Yeah, I figured as much on second thought. I'm going to wait a couple weeks and see if any 8800 information surfaces. I have to have this laptop IN HAND by the first week of September though, so can't wait too much longer...

Impugingcnic, you are in EXACTLY the same situation as me, i called PCmicro, avadirect and sager, and need this thing by Sept....
good news u shud be able to get 8700 SLi's, which are almost comparable to the 7950s, they will prolly be a lil bit less powerful, benchwise, but they will be DX10, so hey thats cool
as far as the E6850.... i dont know if i see that happening in time for college... both of us are in a very tough situation of changing technology.
if we wait a few months we'll have all the newest shyt(8800s, Penryns!), but we need it NOW...

I just called powernotebooks.com to see what they had to say, and I spent a good half hour on the phone with someone named Ron, who told me exactly the opposite that pcmicro did.
Firstly, they dont even have confirmation that there will even BE 8800s yet. They might just skip to something more efficient and thermally suited for a laptop.
Secondly, the 8700s won't even be available in SLI until mid-late August. And even then, he's telling me that Sager tells them the 7950 SLI configuration still kicks the pants off the 8700M, especially at high resolutions (which I kind of already knew...)
To top it all off, he's heard nothing about 1333 mhz CPUs being compatible, even with a bios update.

    Summary:
PEOPLE, BEWARE. PCMICROWORKS will tell you whatever you want to hear! I thanked Ron profusely, and I might just order from him in a month.

it works both ways, if his company is behind in getting the new technology, he wants to sell what they have in stock, its impossible to know for sure whose telling the truth unless you go to the ODM? i think thats wat is... for example if u like the blackhawk, or the NP9260, go to CLEVO about their D900, same machine. I already sent an E-mail to Clevo, but their Taiwan or japan based, so we'll see wen that e-mail comes back. (my e-mail asked about the 8700s AND E6850)
