I want to upgrade my video card , but I have to know what type of video card does 1720 hold so I can buy it on ebay. Thank you!!!
-
Do you mean this: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 ?
Can the video card even be swapped out??? -
allfiredup Notebook Virtuoso
Whether you can actually upgrade it is questionable. Just be certain that it's possible before you buy a graphics card.
The two options available when the 1720 was new were-
128mb nVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
256mb nVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
If your 1720 has the Intel GMA X3100, that means it has the Intel GM965 Express Chipset. The nVIDIA graphics cards would need the Intel PM965 Express Chipset instead, I believe... -
I just heard that it it changeable. The video card is not integrated on the motherboard. So, I want to try to change it.
-
It depends on the configuration that you initially ordered.
If you ordered it with the x3100 graphic accelerator, then per allfiredup it would be the GM965 Express chipset which will not accept a dedicated graphic card.
If you ordered it with the 8400m GS then yes, the graphic card is upgradable to only 8600m GT (DDR2). -
So, It is impossible to change the video card if it is GM965 chipset? Can chipset be chipset be changed? Thanks!
-
As far as I know, nope because there isn't a slot for the video card. Unfortunately, thte chipset can't be changed easily as it is part of the motherboard.
