Hi everyone, I was wondering if the 169.04 driver is still competable compared to the new 174/175 drivers? Are they worth using since they can OC or is it just a waste due to lack of updats?

I am not a big gamer, but I moved up to 175.16 and it is MUCH better that the 167 or 169 versions I tried before it. It's certainly a keeper for me.

Hmm i am still stuck on 169.04. O/C is what can make many of the current generation titles playable on a 8400M GS like Mass Effect and GRID :(

    History as I see it:

    169.04 was replaced by 171.16
    171.16 was surpassed by 174.74
174.74 is at least equaled by 175.12 and 175.16

I just installed 175.16 on my desktop and in the few games I have played it's fantastic.
Getting my m1730 sometime in the next week or two so if someone could shed light on how it goes on the laptops that would be great.

174.74 is the most stable driver to my experience. It works well for all the games I play:Team fortress2, COD4, Mass Effect, Command and Conquer3, World in Conflict

175.80 has been the best performing driver for me so far with the best OC ability.

How about temps and power saving features?
Are both of these under control/functional with the 174.74 and 175.80 drivers?

Wow! great respons, thanks guys keep it up.

I too have went back to 160.04 because of overclock.. if I could I would hardware OC, but LG doesnt provide the bios in a ROM file :( only some secured .exe which is extremely annoying.

the oc on my 8600m ddr3 is major! from core/mem: 500/700 to 651 / 851 without problems! that means a change in 3dmark06 (1280x768) from score 3150 to 4050! which is VERY noticable in games too.

169.04 works better than 175.80 for me in a bit older dx9 games like world of warcraft and such, but i think in very new games like age of conan the 175 series might perform better due to optimization.

Just went back to (hopefully) fix stuttering in HL2.

175.16 was great for Bioschok in my experience, but HL2 was nigh unplayable at times because of the infamous stutering bug (I could play the demo w/out any stuttering w/169.04).

Yes, new drivers also have fixes for games. This means that you may be seeing performance/reliability issues with some games if you stick to the older drivers. I agree with the philosophy of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but when you bear in mind that I saw a 10 fps increase merely by changing my drivers with World in Conflict, you can see my point.

is there any way of telling which new drivers will maintian normal clock speed while improving performance before hand without the hassle of install and unistall and this trial and error sorta thing.... because these drivers are for serveral different cards and each driver is designed for certain things like ocing ....

Not that I know of. I think its just a case of trial and error. Keep an eye on LaptopVideo2go's forums for other peoples opinions on specific drivers.
