Anything besides native resolution on a LCD is not optimal. Personally, I find non-native resolution "mushy" and it makes everything in the game world lose their fine details.

Non-native is fine. No reason to have to run it so high resolution.

What I find to be the most important is usually ratio. If your native resolution is 1680x1050, well try keeping it at a 16:10 resolution. The smaller your native resolution though, the less and less you'll notice it, unless you are one of them crazies with the "eyes".....Or was that for seeing ghosts, I forget.
