Well.. it looks like the background program "igfxsrvc.exe" runs while iam using hte x3100 and it looks like i still only get about 3 hours battery life with it.

iam prety sure my nvidia 8400m GS gets about the same thing.. because it doesn't have that igfxsrvc.exe running in the background when its up.

the igfxsrvc.exe takes about 30-40% of the processing power. I am thinking that may be effectin the battery life.

Is this a driver problem? I also noticed that my X3100 plays games prety crappy too compared to the 8400m GS but thats sorta expected.. but i didn't think it was that bad. I got the most up to date Intel 64 vista drivers for it. and i must have updated it serveral times with the first time it crashing and not loading up the disply drivers at first.

Also, in order to runt he x3100 on my battery i have to turn off the "Intel Display Refresh Rate Switching Technology" options. Because with it on during battery mode it will crash the driver and the screen will turn super bright.

Is anyone having these problems? the specs of my PC is in the signature.

How did you install the GPU drivers ? Through Device Manager ?
Tried the drivers from Intel or Manufacturer's site ?

I went from the X3100 to Nvidia card on one of my laptops. The X3100 definitely uses less power than the Nvidia card.

That process, IF it is something related to the Intel X3100, should not be taking 30-40% most of the time.

iam using full aero's and stuff..

and yeah i got the drivers from Intel.com but i reinstalled it serveral times so i think its in for sure.

would it help if i installed it through device manager? like would that fix anything?

Try this instead. Go into msconfig > startup items > Disable each entry related to the "Intel Common User Interface" > Restart > Now check CPU usage.

(There will be at least 3 entries)

ummm the X3100 should consume less battery power since the nvidia delivers more performance.

The X3100 uses less. The X3100 is integrated, fairly weak, and has minimal onboard memory. It is more of a card for passive graphical computations (aero etc.) rather then dedicated graphical computations such as games, CAD, etc.

I had this problem yesterday, installed the latest drivers from intel (vista 64bit) and it was idling with about 40-50% cpu usage. Solved this problem (with the help of andy) by disabling 3 intel startup entries. On the startup items column there will be 3 entries titled Intel(R) Common User Interface. Then under command the files will be titled \system32\hkcmd.exe, \system32\igfxtray.exe, \system32\igfxpers.exe. Rebooted and this seemed to solve the issue.

    Info about these files:

    hkcmd.exe

    igfxtray.exe

    igfxpers.exe

Not sure if it will help your issues but worked for me and has had no issue on my system.
