I was wondering if the size of a monitor can decrease performance in the same way that increasing the resolution can.
For example, my 17inch laptop screen runs at 1920x1200 and I can get an average of about 40fps on GTA4. Now say if I plug my laptop into a 37inch tv (via hdmi) that runs at 1920x1080, will I get roughly the same performance?
I have read different information in different places saying that the resolution is the only thing that matters, whereas others say the screen size is just as important.

The higher the resolution the lower the frame rate you will get, but if you have a powerful notebook you most likely not see any difference in performance.
If you get 40fps at 1920x1200 , you should get a little higher fps at 1920x1080 -
So the physical size of the monitor has no bearing on the actual performance?

None at all , only the resolution

Awesome. Thanks for that
-
yup.. though I'm too late.

Games will render faster on a moon sized 1x1 display than on a playing card sized QuadHD one...

Where can i buy a QuadHD display

Remember, size doesn't matter.

Can't remember the website, but I think I remember something about Panasonic making a 7048 x 4096 format, or something along those lines.

there are higher res ones.
but all of them require multiple digital inputs and run at a very low refresh rate. not for consumer use.
the highest res you can go realistically is wqxga. -

Or they could use just one analog input. Infinite bandwidth FTW.
Edit: I think WQXGA is the limit for dual-link DVI-D. -
What is WQXGA? OH wait, thanks to wikipedia:

2560x1600
That's a huge resolution. That's 4.1M pixels. Holy cow. -
I thought size doesnt matter
-
Physical size. It's what you do with it that counts.
You can have a 14" WQXGA or a 19" WQXGA and they both satisfy the user. -

the larger monitor will draw more power (from the wall socket).
that is the difference. -
Not counting the fact that getting it in your house becomes problematic. I read somewhere that if you bought that panasonic 105" plasma(or what is 150"?), basically the installation team would have to come with construction workers to break
your walls, lift the tv with a crane, install it and rebuild the wall afterwards....
I think Eyefinity and thin bezeled screens is the best way to get huge resolutions. -
Yep. And as far as performance goes, resolution is what counts in games.

that is lies. (fyi) -

Does the size of a monitor affect performance?
