Im looking for an X-FI sound card to my laptop, since i read the sound effects are improved massively with X-FI and EAX HD 5.0. (That for example enables The ultra high settings in battlefield2)

Im looking into this one: X-FI extreme audio notebook

    http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=208&product=16642

But i cant figure out if this card only improves music and surround or if it also inculdes the latest EAX 5.0 technology.

Or if it is only an older version of EAX like the Audigy's 4.0 or even worse like the on-board sound's 2.0

Have anyone tried this product? I cant find the info on their page.

    thanks!

EAX 4.0, and i also read that it still does not have hardware acceleration, it still does it through the CPU.

Thanks. How did you find out?

I was just wondering if this a new update to the card, since it says on the link that it includes "the latest EAX advanced HD" technology.

I havent seen that before. It also says " NEW" on the front page of the soundblaster section.

Does the audigy have hardware acceleration?

I've asked before but apparently all notebook external sound cards perform EAX using software acceleration, only the desktop versions support hardware acceleration.

EAX 5.0 sounds like the newest format so I don't think notebook cards support it yet.

If your notebook internal sound card produces sub-par sound then the external solution will surprise you with what it can output. If you have a good set of speakers to go with the sound card it is possible to mimic surround sound on a portable machine.

Yes I think the older one does have hardware acceleration and is a better deal all around, if you're a gamer. I'd look up some more information on that though, if I were you. It's out there (try google).
