Has anyone ever had success getting Dominion Wars to run on
Windows XP or Vista. I have tried but to no avail at running this game
    on Vista an XP.

I am thinking my disc is damaged somehow.

Well, a google search indicates it works on XP. So maybe it's your disc. Or possibly other factors such as hardware, drivers, version of Windows, etc.

Yea, I tried those patches but none of them worked.

I thought the disc as well, so I posted in the FS thread if someone
has it they do not want anylonger.

I think it is an XP issue, I took an old computer out of moth balls and installed Win98SE. The game plays fine.

****, new hardware and I am stuck using the 7 year old comp just to play
    a favourite game of mine.

I'll keep trying to force it to work on XP since I installed XP to my eSata drive ONLY to play this dang game!

Er, right click on the executable and select "Run this on compatibility mode (select windows 95 or 98, whichever)".

Hey, I just got a tablet with Vista 64. I know a person who had it working in Vista 32, but I am not having any luck. One issue I know of is that DW doesn't work with many newer vid cards, but any tricks to this one are welcome.

The issue is primarly with newer GFX cards, the game hates them with a passion i can't get it to run in Windows 7, XP inside a VM or 98se inside a VM. Shame really as its by far the best star trek game spinoff. Was hoping legacy would be better but after completing it, it just isen't

I have run it on Xp and Vista32 and it works fine, you might have to enable Xp compatibility mode, also check for any updates/patches.

Just out of curiousity, Tinderbox, what are your graphics specs. I can't remember if it was my current desktop that I built last spring or old desktop, but I had working fine with XP when I pulled my Nvidia card and just let it run with onboard graphics. For some strange reason it's not letting me install any patches as well. I know someone who got it to run w/ 32 bit Vista, but I'm running 64 bit Vista and we are thinking that might be the snag.

I think the last time i ran it i had a P8400 CPU and a Nvidia 9200m GT , I still have the game around hear it`s great, I also have Deep Space Nine the Fallen that`s even better.

Hmmm... I have heard that ATI cards have better compatability, but maybe because it's only a 200 model Nvidia card it's low enough (irony there) for the game to run.

I've run through all the compatability modes, no joy there. I guess for now I'm going to try and look at the patches to try and get them to work.

Honestly, I wouldn't even bother with the game. Get Bridge Commander. Find the mods for it. Profit and win.

Well that's your opinion. I have nothing against Bridge Commander, but Dominion Wars, in my opinion, has the best immersion content due to the voice acting of Marc Alaimo, Jeffry Combs, and Barry Jenner.

Hello, I’m new in this forum.

I love Star Trek, especially DS9 but I can’t play it in my new computer (Lenovo + Intel 4500MHD + Win7).

The game loads fine and I can start the 1st mission but then the problem is that the graphics are mostly a palette of green. Also the ships and the controls.

I’ve tried every compatibility mode (95 up to vista) but still no effect.
I have the original game (European version 1.03) but it won’t let me do any further upgrades or patches.

I even download the game, patched it up to 1.05, and added the XP compatibility patch and…. No effect. All green. I’m starting to hate green…

I’ve also installed the game in a VISTA computer with the same result (also Intel GMA)

Tinderbox, I’ve read your post and I’ve seen that can plat the game, having win7 and the Intel 4500MHD. Can you tell me how? Is there any patch that I may have missed?

    Thanks in advance
    Edu

I will give it a go on my 4500MHD and Win7 x64 and see what happens, have you tried the latest intel drivers.

It plays in green for me too, I had to run it in Win Xp compatibility mode for it to run at all, I will run it on my ATI HD4330 and see what happens.

EDIT : I updated to the latest intel drivers for my switchable notebook and it is still green , and the game will not run at all on my ATI HD4330 , I just a error.

So I think that there is no solution.
I’ve also tried all updates (intel and the game).
The game simply will not play well in these conditions. Probably is the graphic card that it’s not compatible. In the support section on the official site ( Untitled Document) they describe the “green problem”. The solution is to update the drivers…
I’m very sorry because is the best Star Trek game there is…
    Thanks for you time!

    Hello,
I'm glad to know there're people still want to play this game. However, it seems having serious hardware problems with most decent graphic cards. I have heard it can work on ati hd3650, but I cannot get it to run on mobility 3410. Therefore I still kept my old laptop which has mobility 9700 only to play this game. I even bought a (used) 10inch japanese mini laptop which has mobility 7500 for playing DW as well.

dominion wars is one of the best, least known games ever. Have you tried running it on a virtual machine? What about in Win 7 pro/ultimate with that xp mode thing?

    I've tried all of them.
XP mode does not support 3D games at all.
VMware workstation has directX9 support, but cannot run DW.
Virtualbox has limited DirectX/OpenGL support, and cannot run DW.

I would recommend buy an used old generation laptop or keep your old one if it can play DW.

I think is some kind of technology paradox: With the evolution of hardware (and the drivers) the tendency should be to harmonise the applications in an order to produce each time less errors and bugs… but is happening the opposite.

I still didn’t give it up on DW but for now in "stuck" with BoF and Starfleet Command
