    OK

    the 9500m GS=8600m

    9650m GT=8700GT

    So then

    9600m GT=?

The new compal nbs are rumored to have 9600m.

Do you think its the gddr3 version of the 9500m GS?

    9600M-GT = 8650MGT aka 8600MGT GDDR3 "Enhanced"
    Just my guess :)

the naming scheme is going to get even more ridiculous in the future as the newer cards are released, (ie the desktop ones) :(

It's going for the GTX 2XX scheme..
280 should be the highest, 260 the midrange.. i guess, although the line is kinda blurred.

Next for desktops will probably be GTX 360, 380, etc etc, and of course the mobile version will be like GTX 260m or something like that.

In 2 years or so, we'll have 12800GTs etc. :D Hopefully, they'll change it or it's really going to get ridiculous.

I wish they would've just gone the way of AMD/ATI! Just give us a freaking number! HIGHER SHOULD JUST MEAN BETTER PERFORMING, THAT IS ALL! Different generations of cards should be just plain old 20-50% faster than the identical card in the previous generation.

Then again, I haven't seen how they will be naming their midrange cards and such, so maybe Nvidia has a good naming scheme up their sleeve. *pfff*

My squestion is, why so many types??!?!?!??!

    9500m GS, 9600m GT, 9650m GT, 9700m GT, 9800m GTS/GT/GTX.........

In the 8 gen, it was easy

    8600 GT, 8700 GT, 8800 GTS/GTX

    9600M GS is 65nm 9500M GS/8600M GT and 9600M GT is 65nm 9650M GS /8700M GT. 9700M GT is 55nm 9600M GT

    And from what we know.

9700M GTS is based on the desktop 9600GT (g94), probably not as good. 9800M GT is gonna be the mobile 9600GT and 9800M GTS should be its 55nm revision.

There also is the 9800GTX+ that is a 55nm 9800GTX (desktop) lol. It doesn't make any sense anymore

To be honest, the 9600M GT doesn't look very impressive in tests.
    http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/hp-pavilion-dv5t-entertainment-notebook-pc.aspx
3937 at standard testing resolution is decent, pretty much an overclocked 8600M GT. Unfortunately we don't know what processor it is, so that skews the test somewhat. Can't wait for some actual benchmarks to be released.

Judging from the 3dmark06, the 9600M GT doesn't look like a 8700 GT, more like a souped up 8600M GT GDDR3.

I am really annoyed sometimes too.

when i go to newegg and see...

    8800GTS,9800GTX

And the GTS sometimes costs more than the GTX.

They need to hire somebody to eliminate weirdness.

I don't really like the GTX 200 naming. And I feel like they are still part of the 8 series... Or should be in the 9 series.

and what happened to the 9900?

    :[ Confused.

    9900GTS/GTX = GTX 260/280??

And i think their prices are like that because they are a reseller.

Yeah. I also wish if numbers on laptop cards actually reflect performance of their desktop cousins. I mean, m9600gt has nothing to do with desktop 9600gt (which is actually pretty good). Buyer beware, I guess.

Um, considering the 8800m GTS/GTX both exist, im gonna say the 9800m GTS/GTX != 8800m GTS/GTX, but better.
