I just saw this available on Steam to purchase and no thread about it here yet.

I used to play Doom when I was like 15 but I don't know if I will enjoy fighting imaginary monsters that are unrealistic now that I'm almost 32 years old.

Do you think it's worth it? Also, do you think that my system will run it @ 60FPS fine with max settings on a 1920x1080 resolution?

Dont care if others hate it. I played the beta, and cant wait to get down to it. At least until Overwatch sucks up all my time once its out.

I day 1ed this sucker. I love it. Calling it violent is an understatement. Got it purely for the campaign. I'm relieved the melee didn't ruin it.

Paid $35 at cdkeys.com and came with some DLC content. Much worth at this point. I thought MP beta was absolute trash, but saw video of single player and was intrigued.

Bought it yesterday and played a little this morning to see how it ran on my setup. I am very happy that it works with SLI. So far the first 5 minutes or so have been very good.

And I think you might see some dips at 1920 at Ultra. I am running SLI titan x and I still see some dips below 60 on ultra at 2560.

Yeah I don't think SLI is working great - high usage on both cards doesn't always mean good scaling. Project Cars does the same thing. I'm running around 130fps at 1080p maxed everything on an overclocked 980ti.
1440p on a single should easily push you over 60fps all the time.

I just read it's actually not "officially" supported which may mean the same thing it does as with Far Cry Primal where some people can get full scaling on their system but the same guy with a different motherboard will get no scaling at all. Guess we have to wait for the official support.

Needless to say I am in no way comparing this game to Far Cry Primal which was kind of an aborted fetus.

Meh, so far it feels more like a Serious Sam sequel than Doom. Too fast paced and shoot and run. Doom 3 was a classic sneak and horror type game. This feels just too much like same old same old.

Nothing wrong with Serious Sam, just that it isn't Doom. Doom is slow, creepy, suspense. Not run and gun with a billion bad guys.

Doom 3 was a bit of a departure. Doom 1 and Doom 2 were fight for your life and faster paced.

I like all 4 of them now, though.

How does it still surprise you? It's an id tech engine, of course it's gonna require those 50GBs.

But that's what Doom is all about. Doom 3 was an exception.

This game does look interesting. I guess one more for my wishlist...

I like how carmack puts it.. "doom is about 2 things, 1:shotguns 2:demons"

I haven't played enough but I hope there's a double barrel that's as satisfying as the original dooms.
Mind you that explosive second fire hits the spot.

    @HTWingNut

If you liked doom 3 you probably won't care for this one so much. It's more akin to Doom 1,2,Final Doom.

I dunno, doesn't feel like Doom 1 or 2 and played both to death when they came out. I guess maybe it was fresh then because there wasn't really anything else like it. But today, well... I'll give it time, but just feels too generic and little sense of suspense. I remember hesitating around every corner and before every door in Doom 1 and 2. But now they're just front and center.

Hahaha I actually remember playing doom 1 and 2, listening by the door to see how many were inside.
Yeah, nothing will ever beat the originals really.
I can also remember how violent they felt. More shocking than now, but I was pretty young at the time and it was all uncharted territory back then.. It's really hard to tell. Not much leaves such a big impression on me as did back then.

There's not too many reboots (or games for that matter) that get me giddy though. I think they've done the atmosphere brilliantly though overall.
I'm only a few levels in so we'll see if my impressions change when I'm through.

One thing I have to say is that it is scalable. Plays on GT 940m with slight overclock at 1280x720 medium details at 40-50 FPS! 1024x576 bumps FPS up to 60. Very impressive.

Checkpoint saves only? It syncs video settings too on Steam. Why? Makes no sense. I don't want same video settings on PC's I play it on, only save games and key bindings.

It does, and apparently, it creates a cache for the video settings that makes it difficult for some users to actually change their settings later without deleting both cache folders or reinstalling their drivers ( http://steamcommunity.com/app/379720/discussions/0/357286119106178993/). It appears to be an issue primarily affecting Kepler users, although my experience has been quite normal in this regard.

managed to get it to run at 1080p with the new drivers and interestingly when capped to 120hz the game goes between 60-120fps but mainly stays in the 70-100fps range. But as a result the temps went into the low 70s which i think is ok.

though i did try running it at 900p and it felt like a solid 120hz.

EDIT: I think i should rely less on the fps counter in RTSS since it's more granular and it seems the polling speed for getting the fps is way slower than the fps counter in-game and i think the fps counter in game is way more accurate in terms of real world speed. the in game fps counter does seem to ignore fps drops from hitching caused by loading and saving.
