I randomly googled Doom II today, as it was the last Doom game I had played 10 or so years ago and for some reason it popped into my head.
I never played Doom 3, although I have thought about buying it to play (single player, as I hear all the multiplayer servers are dead.) I also see there are rumors of a Doom 4. I can't find any proposed release date, and there are even rumors that the project has already been squashed.
If it came out, would anyone play it?

I haven't heard a peep about D4, and honestly if they're going to just rehash the same game over and over again who gives a crap when D4 is coming out

I think it would be interesting playing Doom II again! -

I have seen a few concept art pieces for Doom 4. It will be "Hell on Earth", just as Doom 2 Was. (Doom 3, was a remake of the original Doom)

Here you go. Everything we know so far. Doom 4

In the days prior to game "story telling", they were the masters.. but now.. they just can't get compelling stories or content together and their engines always seem "bulky", like the artistic style just doesn't mesh with what they are doing.
They have the talent to do amazing things again, but they really need some new art direction and content management/creation blood. -

I still think I'd buy it if it came out. If for nothing else, nostalgia purposes.

Haha. I was just contemplating downloading it along with expansion pack off of steam.

It was a lot easier at the time of doom and doom2 to be successful and innovative (so few FPS at the time with the likes of heretic, wolfenstein, duke nukem 3d etc...).
with doom 4 if there ever will be, they'll really have to step up the game with the tight competition in the FPS genre. -

Doom III had some severe design issues. Most notably, the darkness made it difficult to actually play and enjoy. A "Flashlight" mod made it much easier to navigate, but overall, it lost my interest and i didn't finish it.. which is VERY rare for me to not finish a title.
Now, Quake 4 was pretty good, i have to admit.. Not their best, but good enough. Havent played Rage yet. -

ugh, at least they should release a rage dlc first before they have some previews on doom 4
all those awesome graphics and effects will go out for a waste if there's no dlc planned release this year.

I hope there is DLC that adds deathmatch, arena or some other sort of multiplayer mode beside the racing. -
Doom 3 was also epic... but yeah, they went overboard with the darkness crap. Seems odd you like quake 4 (which I thought was pretty poor single player) but didn't like doom 3... but maybe you don't scare as easily as I do -
Doom 3 was just an awesome game. Its the only game that I can say made me jump in my seat. The darkness only added to the scariness of the game. And just like the previous doom games, after I beat it the first time, i replayed it on the hardest difficulty with god mode and unlimited ammo. Pure awesomeness.
Def looking forward to Doom 4, even if it sucks I already know it'll be awesome (oxymoron LOL!) -
If you played Doom 3 with a flashlight mod, you haven't played Doom 3.
Doom 3 was meant to make you feel claustrophobic and afraid of what was around you. Without the flashlight mod, it was one of the most horrifying games ever made. ID was pure gold until quake 4, which was mediocre in comparison to the rest of their games. RAGE was innovative, but a little off. It was a good game, by no means bad or even mediocre. I feel Doom 4 will be another ID great. Also, games like Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2 were produced by giant developers with a huge budget, and ID was able to create RAGE which was graphically on par with the both of them, and they have a relatively small development team. John Carmack still has it, he's just not as well known as he was back when OpenGL was superior to Directx. -

Doom64 was my favorite, it captured the feel or the original with lots of hidden stuff, survival horror aspects, and labyrinth like maps.
Doom 3 was just a new age shooter to the doom theme.
It's not a bad game to that effect but it does not really feel "doom" to me. -
I love Doom and Doom ][ and every other expansion after that. Doom 3 was nice, loved the graphics but it paled in comparison to clearing out 30 imps after you opened a door in the first two Doom games.
-
I'm not a big fan of horror games but I loved Doom 3. They did an excellent job with the audio which is what really made the game. Kind of like Amnesia game, which didn't have great graphics, but good atmosphere.

played it on my own generic 286AT and my cousin's IBM PS/2 386DX. the best single-player shooter experience of my life.
-
I remember sitting down and playing Wolfenstein 3-D with my dad. Those enormous floppy disks. Had a whole case full of them...no idea where he got them from.
-
I don't remember exact specs, but my CPU was made by Cyrix, which doesn't exist in mainstream anymore, if at all.
