I could not resist so I dug up my old Doom Wads. Using the JDoom engine. Awesome! With all the settings turned up the screens look way cool. I don't know if a frame counter goes this high but feels like 200+, way smooth, not a hint of lag.
As for sprites, well they are still sprites, really ugly up close. Hope someone writes some OpenGL code for them.
Now if we can get console ports to run this fast!![]()

Haha nice. I'm hoping that the 7900 GS can run UT2004 at 60fps maxed out at 1920X1200
I don't mean to de-rail your thread (I'll edit this post if necessary) but what sort of performance are you seeing in your games and at what resolutions? I have found basically no 7900GS tests, only 7900GTX. I'm hoping that I can run Oblivion with HDR, draw distance maxed and a half decent resolution. -
Well, I posted my FEAR frame rates a while back. I see lots of synthetic bench marks for what their worth.
Oblivion is a bear...and a badly coded port. I don't think there is a computer made that can run this thing WFO. I still like the game but have the rez down to 1680x1050 and a few others turned down to keep down the lag. When the HD is accessed i get choppy play but smooth otherwise. I have the grass low..I kept losing things in it! NO bloom, HDR or AA on as well, the game looks great without it but YMMV. I haven't checked FPS but feels above 25 most of the time outside.
Enjoy your 1710!
edit;
My son's 360 runs this thing outstanding. We run it through my Sony HD LCD 42", very nice frame rates there but just by feel. -
Wow. Well I've read about enabling 3.0 Shaders and lowering the grass density, but I heard the game was playable at high settings with HDR at 1280 X 800 or something like that.
If you haven't seen it, try this out http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_1.html I plan to use it when my lappy arrives.
Oh and thanks, comming tomorrowAnd I plan on getting a PS3, I'll take MGS4, FF13 and DMC4 over Halo 3 any day

I enjoy running older games, especially UT2004. I can run that maxed out 60-80FPS at 1680x1050 on my X700 perfectly. Actually runs good on battery too.
When I had the Dell XPS M1710 in my possession, I ran Oblivion on it at 1680x1050 maxed out (minus a few things, such as grass shadows) with HDR, and I was getting 30-45FPS. Really looked spectacular. You should be able to run it at 1440x900 or similar without any problems on the Go7900GS.
