Overview
Dota 2 is an upcoming action fantasy strategy video game being developed by Valve Corporation and the stand-alone sequel to the popular Defense of the Ancients mod for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne.
Gameplay
Dota 2 combines the real-time strategy element of traditional top-down perspective, while also incorporating the leveling and itemization system of a role-playing video game. Players are pitted against each other as two distinct factions called the Radiant and the Dire. The Radiant is a faction based at the southwest corner of the map, while the Dire is a faction based at the northeast corner. Players assume the role of a "hero" - a strategically-powerful unit with special skills, who, through combat experience, may progress to a maximum level of twenty-five.[4] The heroes' methods of combat are heavily influenced by their primary property, which can be physical strength, agility, or intelligence.[5] The basic setup of Dota 2 places two strongholds containing critical structures called "Ancient Fortresses" at opposing ends of an evenly balanced map. These bases are connected by three main paths (referred to as "lanes") which are guarded by defensive towers and constantly spawning waves of units which march from one side to another, combating the towers as well as each other along the way. Players are split into two teams, each consisting of up to five players, to compete as the primary defenders for each Ancient Fortress.[6]
The overall objective of each match is to battle through the opposing force's defenses, in order to arrive at and destroy the opponents' Ancient Fortress. Because Dota 2 is highly team-oriented, players must coordinate with their teams in order to achieve victory. The towers and stronghold defenses are invulnerable to attacks so long as the towers nearest to the enemy side still stand. Periodically, groups of weaker units commonly referred to as "creeps" are spawned, which move along their lane attacking any enemy unit or structure upon sight.
The currency of the game is gold, which is granted periodically, but typically accumulates at a more practical level by killing enemy units, which grants a distributed amount of gold to the killer's team, with the greater portion being retained by the killer themselves. A common technique utilized to prevent the opposing faction from accumulating gold from a kill is "denying", which constitutes killing an allied unit or destroying an allied structure and can be employed when the unit or structure it is about to be used on is close to death or collapse, respectively. Players also gain experience, which accumulates to gain higher levels. The greatest portion of gold and experience comes from destroying higher priority forces, such as enemy heroes and towers

Yup me. Been playing non-stop. Mostly invoker (my fave hero). Add me, I'm sakifr.
-
Invoker is one of those heroes that in the hands of a good player is near op imo. Sigh, i still need to practise with him more before trying him in a good match. -
Just installed it, and never played the game before. I'll be getting used to it, then hopefully we can get some big games going.
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Ill add you. I win 2 out of 3 games generally i play with invoker. On a streak in one as we speak.
Corrected just finished. 9-0-15. -
I never thought invoker was that great of a hero back in Dota...Still hoping to get a Dota 2 key.
-
Dont play match making games now for heaven sake as you will be paired with veterans with 6-8 years dota experience(especially in the beta) and the results may not be too pleasant. Moreover there is no skill tracking too currently making this more difficult.
-
I hate especially the whirlwind + emp combo on him that makes any early game team fights unfair if you are on the opposite team (especially when you have less than 500 mana) -
please!

Invoker imo is the best mid hero and if he can get levels and gank he is golden. He literally can filll any role in the game. Initiator, ganker, carry, support, and even tank (albeit his weakest of the roles and not common).
Yeah I'm pretty good with him early and mid game. I can handle and contain/harass all mid heroes. The only one that gives me problems is bloodseeker because with a shield and quelling blade he can outlast hit me and heal himself so my harass does nothing. Working on getting better against him.
I get scepter (trying to be pro) lol but my late game is what I need to work on. Its hard determining what spells to use because when u have scepter and a mid-late or late game fight u can possibly cast 6-8 or your spells and you have to know when to use what.
Yeah alias i just added you. I play uswest or east. I'm from florida so I'm on eastern time. I have to go do some errands in a bit but Ill be on around 6ish.
Kevman I can help you learn if you wanna play some games with me in private or matchmaking. I know learning these type of moba games can be daunting. The real key is knowing what all the heroes are capable of. The dota 2 wiki is fantastic (it can get VERY VERY in depth) and dotafire.com has some great guides.
As for the key graz, I'm not sure if I have one to give away. I mean I got the invite but they never told me I had an extra invite or anything in the email or after. Maybe I do have one? How can i check? -
-
Thanks for the offer Forerunner! I've been reading the wiki's like mad, and tried a matchmaking game once, and didn't get it at all. Been trying bots and so on and getting a bit better.
-
Also, i recommend playing support initially in matchmaking as its much less stress and moreover less of an issue if you under perform. Never pick hard carries unless you are sure you can pull it off as that is the easiest way to get flamed if the match goes south!!
If playing support make sure you learn to ward the rune spots, buy/upgrade the courier and then also the advanced stuff like creep pulling, creep stacking and warding to prevent pulls. -

There are bot games in DOTA 2?
I play Tidehunter just started playing DOTA 2 myself. I am a long time LoL player, Tide was really easy for me to grasp.
Name on steam is Hard2obtane(displays as Liqa Madiq). -
Tidehunter is pretty good as a tank/ganking hero. His ulti rocks and if initiated properly can easily determine the outcome of a team battle. -
yeh Dota 2 is awsome...i am totally boss with Queen Of Pain and can play sand king and sniper pretty well
-
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Exactly, I am used to playing Amumu in League, which is a hodge podge of heroes from DOTA, but he has an ultimate similar to tides.
I took someones advice and started playing with Dragon Knight, not a good champ to start with. Even though I am used to LoL and the games are about 90% similar, I still find there is a learning curve that I wasn't expecting. -
Lich king is an easy hero to start with i would say as hes support and easy on the learning curve. -

Just played my first bot game and I have to say the bots are pretty bad. I like how they tell you what they plan on doing though.

I've been really enjoying playing as Warlock the last few games. Such a great support hero, his ult + slow can really turn the tide of any team battle if used correctly.
-
Is it under NDA? I saw some videos time ago but it's not clear at what time of development are they :|
If someone has a spare key would be GREATLY appreciated to check it
(ok i tried)
-
The game is not under NDA i believe as there are tons of streaming videos on gameplay.
@andros_forever Yeah, warlock is a fun support hero. His slow is really superb when used in a team battle. -
Got my beta key today. I'll finally be able to enjoy this game.
-
I've always preferred hard carries such as Drow, Clinkz and Juggernaut. I enjoy knowing that in the end the entire team could be depending on me and it takes a decent amount of skill balancing laning, nuetral farming, team fights and ganking.
-
if anyone wants to catch some games with a me, hit me up. My steam account is the same as here.
-
still havnt received a beta key, still playing HoN with friends

I so miss nightstalker
damn I need dota 2 beta key
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
I tried finding you shina but there was a shinakuma999, is that you? Yeah warlocks link spell is very underrated it has huge potential in teamfights.
And nighstalker is a pain in the butt lol. He can towerdive at night and get away with ease. -
Nope, my account name is the same as here (shinakuma9) and my gamertag is C2Q so add whichever one. Not sure which it is to add someone on steam. I have batman as my picture.
Actually if we have enough people we could pull off an NBR inhouse if anyone is up for that. -
... dammit! I want a key!
-
been playing it a bit on my AMD C-50...it runs but barely pleasant

how did you guys get the beta key? please help us

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Anyone know what the site for the official beta forums are? -
Maybe it's just me, but I had some difficult times trying to figure out which items to purchase. In LoL, the items are categorized by attributes so as a beginner, I could figure out which to buy. Maybe I need more practice in Dota2
-
Been playing a bit, but I'm still learning the ropes.
Mostly play as Blood Seeker
My steam account name is Rec0n85 if you want to add me -
-
-
Blood seeker is am awful mid if you are up against anyone somewhat aggressive. Any ranged hero will hit you 3-4 times when you go in for a last hit, deny. Seeing as mid is an aggressive lane, you'll get that a lot.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk -
Sure, the enemy ranged hero can hit you but your bloodbath makes sure that you keep replenishing hp while your creeps keep hitting the enemy for aggro. So basically you keep getting most of the cs (Creep score). -
I think it depends on the enemy he is facing in mid lane. Example of this maybe going against Lich, Tinker and Destroyer. It would be hard just to rely without an AOE damage skill like Beastmaster's Wild Axe in order to pull creeps to you even further than your own tower (so that the creeps will follow you and will not attack your tier 1 tower, and the enemy hero can't push either as well).
