Hey guys, I recently sold my desktop and was playing dota 2 on my clevo w230st which has a nvidia gtx 765m, a decently fast mobile gpu. My fps was extremely upsetting around 45 with max settings on 19*10 res. It made no sense to me since my friends 3 year old amd 5870m was getting higher fps than me. I was considering selling my laptop and waste 2k on a new one before i found a solution, now my FPS is at a stable 90 and life is good again. Felt i should share since dota2 is a pretty popular game and many people here are probably using nvidia gpu atm and experiencing unnecessary loss of fps due to ty programming.

-nod3d9ex into launch option will make your fps skyrocket.

Are you playing in windowed mode? That would be the biggest performance reducer. That launch command should have no effect in fullscreen mode. It's the same as disabling Windows Aero extensions in the advanced video options, and it does nothing in Windows 8 since Aero is gone. Also, getting 45 FPS in DOTA 2 maxed out with 765M seems about right according to this. It's probably not normal for your friend's Radeon 5870 to be getting better FPS than your GTX 765M, but it's a fact that Source Engine games have always run better on ATI/AMD GPU's, going way back to the GeForce FX debacle during the launch of Half-Life 2 in 2004 if you're old enough to remember that. :p

im playing in fullscreen, and clearly the command does something because my fps went from 45 to 100 on the exact same settings. if i remove it it goes back to 45. other nvidia users are welcome to try and report back. the source engine running better on amd cards is a thing of the past, post 7xxx series nvidia have been on par with amd if not better.

and the fact that i was getting less fps than a 3 year old 5870M is outragous, its a mobile card not the desktop version and is much much older and slower than the gtx 765m.
