I'm well aware that the laptop in my signature is not capable of playing the latest games at native resolution with most of the details on so I plan to downsize the resolution to 1280 (1440x900 is pushing it a bit).

However 1280 has a couple of options i.e. 768 or 800. I can't remember which one has the same aspect ratio as my native resolution. I don't really want to play games with black bars on both sides or with a stretched out image either. Quick answer from the experts please?

1280x800 is the same aspect ratio as 1680x1050 (1.6 to 1).

1280x800. WXGA. Which is why it's one of the resolution options when buying laptops in the first place. :)

Reason why I asked was because the guide to screens in one of the forums mentioned 1280x768 as well as 1280x800 as WXGA resolutions. For peace of mind I therefore made this thread so that I wouldn't screw up resolution changes for games I play in the future.

Desktop resolution can be whatever you like it to be. I run mine on 1920x1200 , but I don`t game at that resolution. Anyhow, when i`m tired I lower the resolution to 1600x1200, to make text even larger ,without the hastle or running larger screen mode....

1600x1200 is 4:3 and will be skewed to fit on a 16:10 aspect screen.

    16:10 (Widescreen)

    1280x800
    1440x900
    1680x1050
    1920x1200
    2560x1600

    Easy way to answer that

    1680/ 1050= 1.6 800 x 1.6= 1280
